Maureen Lamb
My friend phoned to say that one of her chickens had gone missing, she was very upset. She said she was in the conservatory watching the four of them playing in her garden. She went to get her shoes on before locking them in their coop. One had gone missing within a minute, there was no signs of feathers or any cats etc. We searched the garden. the birds are only approx four months old Bantams. She is worried as can't understand what could have happend. One of the bantams was crying, apart from that nothing. No one can get intop her garden as it's enclosed. Help any ideas? beach chick
look up into the trees? I used to have a very flighty, naughty girl, and there were more than a few evenings when I would find her roosting in a tree.... if she was low enough for me to lift her down and put her in with the others, then I would (and its easier in the dark because they are sleepy). otherwise, if I couldnt get to her I would just have to leave her there, and she was fine. hope it goes ok for your friend - wing-clipping might be the way ahead! Egluntyne
I'd tell her to ask her neighbours to have a look round their gardens and outhouses. A bantam could squeeze through the tiniest gap in the hedge or fence.

craftyhunnypie
Please check under all flowerpots / buckets, oh & leave pots of water about the garden. I lost one through dehydration in the hot part of summer, under a flowerpot! Praying that she turns up soon! Emma.x

Jennifer Jane
I hope your friend has found her missing hen now. We thought we'd lost one of ours the other week, DH went to lock them in a bit later than usual and only 4 of the 5 were in the coop. We eventually found Celia under the hebes, settled down for the night. It was a dreadful fifteen minutes for us until we found her though. If that was the case with your friend's hen then she would have emerged by now though. I agree that they can squeeze through the smallest gaps, even the big girls. Mollie333
Hi so sorry to hear this. Check with her neighbours. I found a young lavender mixed breed chook (Heanor) in someones urban garden. I put notices up and everything, few weeks down the line it turned to be a cockerel.. a very nice one though. Sorry that was no help.. Hope she finds her! Olly
Sorry to hear about the missing hen. I'm afraid my conclusion would be a fox, despite the absence of feathers. They can move in very quickly, and if your friend came back into the conservatory that may have saved the others from being taken. I hope that I am wrong, and that the missing hen turns up. SJChick
Sorry to hear one is missing - but there's still hope. Once we hunted high and low for one of our girls and couldn't find her. We thought a fox had taken her but she appeared the next day when her friends got out to play. Dad thought she had got a bad fright at something and run away and hid between hay bales! She was fine the next day not a mark and not a feather missing.
WitchHazel
hi Maureen Sorry to hear about this. some of my )non bantam) girls can get through the tightest of spaces, so it's possible she may have got out of the garden, or got wedged behind something. I hope she's found safe and well
