MadAboutChooks
Hi my orpington, has already been broody twice this summer, and today after laying her egg is now trying to return to the nest box. I have shut the cube in the hope of putting her off. I did not think that they went broody this late in the season, I cant think of any other reason why she would want to go and sit in the nest box?? What do you think
Mollie333
Normally the 'season' for hatching is April/May ish, i think then when the winter months come they are grown so they will not freeze! I've hatched early July though and all is fine so far.
beach chick
I think they go broody whenever they want to be honest!! I hate it when they are broody in winter though, because it seems so mean to put them in the broody coop then. you'd be fine at this time of year though. Verity F
Nope..! I have Pekins (which would probably explain it...) My silver partridge, Dixie, did a turn in the Cage of Shame last week - and this week's inmate is the black girly, Penny
The Dogmother
I wouldn't recommend hatching under a broody this late in the year; it will be hard to keep the chickies warm.
