This years one and only hatchling, a bantam light Sussex.

I'm pretty sure she is a girl now so have called her Maisie. She is a very good natured animal, and very intelligent too, if a little accident prone in her haste!

Face on, her little face is sometimes bright red and sometimes really pale.

I am pretty confident :D I found pics of last years hatch at the same age (she is 9.5 weeks) and the boys all have large combs and wattles. Her wattles are just coloured jawline at present, and her face is an insipid peach colour most of the time. I've been studying the feathers too and hers appear to be all girl, thankfully! I was cautious as, to me, light Sussex are really 'butch' looking around the face, and she does look very girly in the flesh.

If she crows in the next few weeks she's for the pot!
