I'm afraid it's never nice - but you never know from one day to the next how many chickens you've got. We are never too surprised when they just keel over - it happens in chook world - they are such fragile & sensitive creatures. I love them to bits.

At least I can say that Lulu had a great , happy & fully free range ( very large enclosure with trees) life. :D She had been dustbathing when she passed away - her back was covered in dust & under her wing - bless her.

Poor Lulu :( We came back from a holiday on Saturday and one of our chickens (white chicken) was coughing and limping. It was too late in the day to do anything about it, and the next day we found her dead in the (purple eglu) . Our chicken sitter was really upset - she had been fine on Friday when she checked them and free ranged them.
