Omlet cube and run

I've just been out to Hubby's chook enclosure & poor Lulu our Bluebelle ( about 2 years old) is on her side dead. It must have been her heart - as she came out of the shed as normal this morning...poor thing, she was still laying good - I guess the egg laying was too much for her.

 

R.I.P Lulu.

I'm afraid it's never nice - but you never know from one day to the next how many chickens you've got. We are never too surprised when they just keel over - it happens in chook world - they are such fragile & sensitive creatures. I love them to bits.

At least I can say that Lulu had a great , happy & fully free range ( very large enclosure with trees) life. She had been dustbathing when she passed away - her back was covered in dust & under her wing - bless her.

Poor Lulu We came back from a holiday on Saturday and one of our chickens was coughing and limping. It was too late in the day to do anything about it, and the next day we found her dead in the . Our chicken sitter was really upset - she had been fine on Friday when she checked them and free ranged them.

Really sad news. But you're right Emma, it sounds like she had a fine old life, not like a lot of poor hens out there. I really think that's the most important thing - I bet she was a really contented and happy chicken. x
