My chickens are afraid of ...

Recommended Posts

Forgot that hot air balloons are nasty hissing things and therefore the whole neighbourhood should be warned. Today it's the dreaded golden hop that we (OK, OH) has been pulling down and dumping unceremoniously on the grass. But as it also provides a nice little habitat for numerous crawling beasties the girls are more curious. Only a matter of a couple of hours before they scratch around in it! I have already claimed my hops for the kitchen so they can have whatever is left.

Pumpkins!

We put one in the run last year - we cut out a large chunk so the girls could get their head in and have a feast.

No such luck.

They were scared, running around being very vocal, and wouldn't go into the run (completely refused to go near it) until it was taken out.

I think it's the orange colour - our girls don't like my husband's orange t-shirt or Sainsbury's carrier bags...

Mine are scared of white washing. Any other colour is fine, but white washing blowing in the wind sends them shrieking in to the shrubbery

Mine are scared of towels on the line, no other clothing only towels

Also the blue Ikea bag that I use for taking the wet washing out to the line, if it blows around the garden when it's empty they really freak out

Got a new one that's happened in the past few days. I was in Dunelm Mill on Thursday and saw a nice shoe rack that I thought 'Ah nice perch thingy'. Scared as scared as scarecd - even with a corn cob put on it. So scared they would not walk past it to FR this morning. The shoe rack in now out of the way on the roof and they still have not come out.

Today is going to be fun then - NOT - we have big plans for the run and coop today - a major clean and tidy and change it all around. I can't believe how much they are so bad at change. Perhaps it's a chance to practice my new change agent skills from an event I was at in work last week.

The other day it started to drizzle, so I put a green garden sack on top of their run, so they could shelter under it. They were so scared of it, they then wouldn't go anywhere near that corner of the run! There was a lot of shouting and running around hysterically, until they settled in the drizzle! They do make me laugh
