My chickens are afraid of ...

A butler sink!

I thought I'd upgrade their dust bath from a tub trug to a butler sink I'd rescued from my Nan's garden.

It was so heavy my OH put it in the run for me while i was at work. When i got home late and went to shut them in, I couldn't understand why my girls were huddled on the floor by their shed outside. I couldn't usher them in either so had to lift them both up and place into their pop hole. I go to bed stressing I have red mite as 'why else would they not go indoors?'. Next morning when they tumble out it became clear. Obviously the sink monster from the planet kitchen had landed and must be treated with suspicion, so they bok bok bokked their heads off at 6am to tell me and all the neighbours.

A few handfuls of mealworms dumped in the sink eventually won them over though. Fickle things. LOL

I used the fence fear to my own advantage earlier. Was showing a neighbour how to feed them when I'm away, and mentioned that if she wants them to move away from the feeder, just move the fence panel slightly and they'll all run to the house. And right on queue they did

Chooks are so funny!

A gaggle of geese flying in the classic 'V' shape overhead. I was loving it, but the chickens and the tame lady blackbird hated them!

.... and hot air balloons ... but they had just taken off, so they were very low ... and it was early on a Sunday morning!

My OH says that I forgot to mention the thing they are most afraid of .... his bike! They all run to the shed, as that is where the mealworms are kept, then they fly away clucking as they hate it!

The rake, but only when it's being carried, when I am actually doing some raking they are all in the way trying to see if I rake up any wormies

The strimmer.

The big marrow my neighbour presented me over the fence yesterday. That was very scary.

The vulcan bomber 8) that flew over my house at the weekend. But in fairness, I was slightly terrified of that too!

Water pistols (can't think why :liar: ), the spitting cobra (hose - same as the water pistol), the other day a foil helium balloon - caused untold grief until DD found it in the upper branches of a bush, apple - until the blackbird started eating it and then it was deemed safe.

Buzzards and a red tailed kite are completely ignored, but get a sparrow hawk in the vicinity and again they yell their heads off. I keep telling them that the hawk will not get them unless it wants a double hernia.
