LuckyChickenLover-
Sarcastic title I am SEETHING Lets start with today; I found an ANT in my food. The canteen must be really clean, eh!? Ants don't live alone, there must be a whole colony hiding in the kitchen. I went and complained, where I was told that I was a liar. "That's not an ant, it's a herb, don't be silly" Hmmm... sure, a herb with antenae and legs? They don't even put herbs in the baguettes! Then he said " You carried that back to your class, didn't you? It must of flown on to it then." Sorry, but am I the only one failing to see how an ANT (Which are WELL known for flying ) could have flown onto my food, which was covered, and how the ant could have burried all the way inside the food right to the middle, when I was walking INSIDE a building. Grrrr then he tried to fob me off with the old "What's worse than finding a maggot in an apple? Finding half of a maggot 'joke' . This isn't the first time something like this has happened either. There have been quite a few hairs. One of my friends even found an acrylic nail in her food *Sigh* To be honest, what bugs me the most (pun not intended) is not not the fact that there was insects in my food, it's that he called my a liar Grrrr I could write more but I don't want to bore you. I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the catering company [/rant] Thanks for reading
Snowy
How rude! Definitely write and complain! I know mistakes happen, I don't like finding things in my food, but if they apologise and replace I don't have a problem with that. I found several pieces of fried pan scrub attached to some scampi when I was having a bar meal with friends a few weeks ago. When I took it back, the pub owner tried to tell me it was formed as part of the frying process When i told her that her fryers needed cleaning then, she snatched it off me and took it away - no explanation or apology. Half an hour later she sent a waitress out with a fresh meal. Needless to say, that is one group of people who won't be going there again. Pity you can't all boycott the canteen! sari
Oh that's gross. School food is disgusting, I'm a CSW ( communication Support Worker) and I occasionally eat a school lunch, if I forget my sarnies, and its tasteless..I would contact the catering company, and your local council's environmental health dept...I did this whenI was in a gastro pub chain....and a RAT ran through the pub..it turned out t was utterly infested outside...so I would email them too...yuck x x
Alis girls
Digusting have you kept or photographed it? Write a letter to Health and Safety or EH and probably Jaimie Olivier who I am sure after his cause to get better school dinners would have something to say about addition or ants, maggots, nails or hairs Good luck
Geoid
Ants are a good source of protein! (if you eat enough of them ) I also hate being called a liar, unless I did lie
Couperman
Ants aren't so bad it's the Decs that you should look out for, one is never far behind the other. (sorry) Ants can fly by the way, ok only certain types of certain types, the important ones (queens) I believe. There are worse things to find in your dinner than a dead ant but, the half a maggot joke is a bit lame and patronising so I can see why you are annoyed. Is the food generally acceptable (added insect protein aside)? It is not necessarily caused by a hygiene issue, ants sometimes just decide to grace you with their presence annoying though it is. Now Earwigs they are skincrawlworthy but do taste nice and apparently immune to microwaves. Don't ask. Kev.
Snowy
No no no, naughty Kev - earwigs are cute! (although maybe not in your sandwich) but no microwaving them!!

I didn't mean it, they came out of the sweetcorn cob to ask why things had got so buttery 4 minutes on full power, too Kev.
Chucky Mama
I once found a huge bluebottle when I was 3/4 of the way through an English breakfast (rather smart place too) I complained and they apologise and bought me another breakfast It's the last thing I wanted, not only was I pretty full but it was the last thing I wanted to see after nearly eating a bluebottle in the last one. chickencam
There is nothing cute about earwigs but I agree that they are pretty indistrucatable(sp)
LuckyChickenLover-
Hi guys and thanks for all your replies. The problem is getting worse. The acrylic nail wasn't a one-off, my friend found one and a hair in the same meal I've not had anything from the canteen since the ant thing, and I don't think I ever will in the future! P.S. Earwigs are not cute!
Mollie333
School dinners are horrible. Before i came to the school they sold chocolate and sweets and cans of fizzy pop at school, and fish and chips and waffles.. Then we got a new head teacher, so it was all about healthy eating. Now we have Baguettes, (most of the time not enough fillings to go round everyone ) and sandwiches with LOADS of butter on, and salads. Really really greasy beef burgers, deep fried chicken cobs, and chips and fish/df chicken on fridays, and cookies or muffins, or chicken curry, or vegetable curry (for vegetarians ) which tastes vile. So i guess fridays the one day we can have a hot meal? But they serve bacon cobs and cheese and ham (OVER COOKED) panini's at break. Theres hardly any vegetarian or vegan options, either, so some of my friends don't eat at school anymore, or just stand up with a sandwich, or sit on the benches outside, as we share our dinner with the year below us, so theres not enough seats to go around. You don't go to the same school as me by any chance do you? Ditto the meals there being discusting. Sometimes theres more butter in the baguettes than there is filling! And in the bacon rolls, you get a sliver of meat, the rest is just bacon fat Ditto not being enough space also. Recently my school changed and now there is an extra year group in my school. Now theres an extra 180 students to cater for and the school has made no effort to try and make sure that everything runs smoothly. More often than not the queue goes out of the door of the canteen . My friends have been late to after lunch registration on numerous occasions because they only just get served when the bell goes! Also, they run out of food. The other day two of my friends paid for a full meal and got... half a portion of chips (some of which were frozen) We had open evening the other day, when prospective parents come to school to have a look and see what it's like. The only thing that parents said about the canteen was: "Well this isn't big enough, is it!?" Bearing in mind that it's also ridiculously expensive (£1.30 for a cheese sandwich! You could buy a loaf of bread for that!) They're fleecing me to the tune of £260 a year, for what? Cheap horrible food (with added protein ) and terrible service. I shan't be eating there any more
Couperwife
the "healthy" canteen isnt the head teachers fault - its a government thing - but if its not nice its not going to encourage you is it. do you have a student council? if you put all of your concerns about the school dinners down in a letter to the head teacher and ask your friends to do the same. instead of ranting about what is wrong with the dinners (which is sooo easy to do) put suggestions to what you feel could be improved. (ie, please could you put less butter on the bread in sandwiches ) please dont suggest that chips and cola come back cos it wont happen bupa say that 15% of school children are obese and this is sadly rising, as school is a place for learning, its a good place to learn eating healthy. ok, lecture over must be the teacher in me cathy x

P.S. Am I the only kid in the country that actually doesn't like fizzy drinks? Seriously, I'm not staying off them because they're unhealthy or anything, I genuinely don't like 'em And I wouldn't need to ask them to sell fizzy drinks because they already sell them anyway
