But I add bokashi bran which certainly prevents more 'loose' gifts from my girls. Even though the feed is more expensive than what i was previously buying it does last longer as they don't seem to need so much to fill their tummies. They go mad for the alphamix which I've been mixing with their mash - of course they are throwing the mash away and just eating the Garvo They aren't so keen on the treats though. Am going to get a supply in of Garvo mash which is only a couple of pounds more than the mash I'm getting for them at the moment so hopefully I can cut down on feeding them the Alphamix a bit! They feed Garvo to their own hens so guess they must think it's good. I'm going to try a small bag of GARVO ALPHAMIX first. I admit though that perhaps my desire to see my chickens 'eat up' is that I am used to rather greedy dogs. My Jack Russell loves all my chickens' mash. Luckly the Omlet Grub pot is putting pay to this as he was getting rather fat - well I was using a dog dish . This is the chicken sitter mentioned by Sal119 (who started this thread). They live just a couple of miles from me and their sons go to my son's school. We got our latest chooks from them. The new girls certainly seem very healthy and have managed the move to our place without going down with colds and chest infections unlike our first lot (which we got before Newland Grange started up). I am going to pop in and get some Garvo now on the strength of the recommendations here! The website and online shop can be found here. Even though they shut at 5 (Exactly when i finish work) they're more than happy, if i call them, to put a sack by and let me collect it after work on my way home from Southend to Colchester as the business is also attached to their house. Saves a special round trip of 50 miles or so! I think there's a place in Clacton, or at least a rep of Garvo lives there, maybe that is closer for you? We also used the mixed corn as well which is great. It's full of all sorts of seeds and the big bag will I think last for ever! Yes there is definitely a reduction in droppings. We have four chooks in an Eglu so I've noticed a difference, and the walk in run is definitely cleaner I'm pretty sure it was the people at Newland Grange who told us about this when they looked after the chooks for us. And a treat of our chicken treats everyday. Under fancy chickens we have 716 and 717 for breeding, 701 and 702 for after chicks have hatched, 723 for breeding cockerals, 714 or 715 growers, and when you're showing 714 or 715 supplemented with 25% 704 mixed corn, then when they're in lay 15% corn. Once the showing season has finished 730 and 731 again. And it says 730 and 731 are also suitable for ex batts. I can also tell you all about waterfowl, fancy birds ad pigeons! It was £9 and something but he charged me £9 for cash. It looks slightly smaller, slightly green and looks more solid compared to the biege-coloured, fibrey pellets I have been using. Not sure how the girls have taken to it - they were FR all morning and I've just locked them back in their runs before I do some cores. Gut feeling is that I am on to a good thing here. They have a website and I'll be going over soonish to have a mooch, especially as Garvo do a special quail feed and my lot are in need of a little TLC as they're moulting everywhere. Chicken wise I still have loads of a bag of pellets left so can't justify new pellets just yet - however - some of the treaty bits might be just the ticket to perk up my two after a bad lice infestation.... Gelbel Posted November 13, 2010 Share Posted November 13, 2010 I thought I would give an update seeing as I've been using Garvo for 6 weeks now. We love it - the girls and I. Their eggs are amazing. It is true about the poo - while they still poo; I fancy there is a little less of it, it tends to be easy, big, poo picking dollops. I am just back from holiday and my chicken sitters (who for their first chooks a few weeks ago and first egg today ) commented that mine produce much less poo than their girls. I haven't noticed the consumption go down - but they've not had treats for the past three weeks and Madge has been laying the whole time (she of broody tendencies) I've been using this sack - so it is a bit difficult to make comparisions at the moment. I had to pick up some flooring today as I will change it all out tomorrow and while I was buying it I asked the guy to look into stocking Garvo and he said he'll keep me informed - fingers crossed as it means I won't have to trek miles to get it and I'll have a one stop shop just a few miles from home. I'll let you know what happens - the chap was certainly interested and thanked me for letting him know about Garvo. Talking of flooring, I 've on holiday for the best part of 3 weeks and the runs are fine. I did not ask for them to be cleaned at all and there is only really obvious poo signs under the perch where they sleep. This, I think, demonstrates how Garvo helps the poo situation - when we were away last year for only 2 weeks the run was a total mess.
