Louise
I have been having a pretty cruddy time with one thing and another just recently and a couple of friends I have who live in the village invited me over for dineer and a few drinks on Saturday which was lovely At about 10.30 I decided it was time to go home so I phoned a local taxi firm in Galashiels about 4 miles away and was told that none of their drivers would want the job as it wasn't worth their time for a short journey (about 2 miles) There is no footpath, streetlights or bus service at that time of night I had no coat, torch or ligh clothing on I am female and they expected me to walk home alone Another firm were called and came out but I am absolutely
Guest
That's SHOCKING Louise! Aren't taxi firms covered by some kind of licensing regulations through the local council? it may be worth checking, and putting in a complaint, as that is just shocking. Lesley
I would make a complaint as Shona says - that is really poor behaviour
Popcorn
I'm shocked too. That's outrageous. Do private taxi firms have the same rules and regulations as council run ones?. That's just nonsence. How irresponsible. I take it he knew your predicament Louise?
The Dogmother
That's terrible Louise, and it's so dark where you are too. Cruddy time? Want to give me a ring for a whinge? Feel free, I'm in this evening.

Louise
I am going to complain to the company my local councillor and MP/MSP as they have a duty of care with a public service I wouldn't mind but it isn't cheap £5 for the 2 miles I have to wait until next week as we are about to have elections I am also going to write to the local paper and object when their licence is up for renewal they will rue the day they pi**ed me off It is Five Star Taxis from Galashiels so you all know to boycott them

Popcorn
Yes, good for you Louise. I'm glad you know exactly where to complain too. I must admit I wouldn't have a clue!
Louise
Basically everywhere Gina I am including MP's etc because the bus service in that direction is appauling at night so you have no choice but to use Taxis it is only about 6 miles into Galashiels from home but a Taxi costs over £10 The bus going the other way runs past me 12am getting into Gala at about 00.30 with a later bus on a Friday and Saturday but going from Gala home the last bus out is at 21.15 going past me at 21.45ish This gives me no choice if I am drinking alcohol Okay I don't have to drink alcohol but I should have the choice buit not if the taxi firms are going to pick and choose and anyway I have to pay for the whole journey not just the bit I am in the car If I get the bus I still have half the journey on foot as well But I am prepared when I get the bus I take a torch and have a high vis vest to wear so I can actually be seen
Egluntyne
What a disgrace. I'd write to the owner of the company, and remind him that every time someone has a bad experience like this, by word of mouth , at least 150 others get to hear about it.....and that you would like to have a look at his grievance procedure as you plan to take the matter further. Go to the local newspaper too. The adverse publicity will not do him any good. Sorry to hear you've been having a rotten time.

theherd123
Things like this really make me mad! There are ads all over Birmingham encouraging people to get into a licenced cab and make sure they get home safely - bit of a bummer if the cab firm wont even take you!!
