Ammonia smell in coop-first time owner

I am struggling to think of a special gift I can get from my children (11 + 9) that they can have as a keepsake from their Grandma, my mum, whose funeral we have just had. They boys have been brilliant and loved their very special grandma ever so much. I want something that they can keep for years rather than a box of lego they will grow out of, but I am stuck for ideas of what, I looking to spend a max of around £50 each on them. My mum was a great artist, musician and gardener. Any ideas?

What about a musical instrument - if they are interested. A guitar, keyboard, violin ? You never know what it might lead to.

Do you have a nice picture of your mum with the boys ? You can have some lovely prints made up to look like a painting. I had some really old photos of my dad (83) with his mum and dad, when he was in his 20's and my local photo shop enlarged them and printed them (black and white) onto canvas board. They look really good.

Would it be better to give them something that was hers that they will treasure and remember her by. Perhaps some of her gardening tools and then you get the disposables bulbs, planters etc.,?

 

Perhaps a piece of her work when they are 18?

Got the perfect gift, the boys have each chosen a piece of my mums unframed art work, which I will have framed for them and they can keep forever! I've only just got her work, it is beautiful and a very personal gift for her 'grandboys' to cherish forever. Thank you so much for the ideas, if I hadn't just got the work I would have followed one of them!

That sounds like a lovely idea! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss - it's such a difficult time, and having something like this to focus happy memories on can be very helpful, both for you and your sons.

I was seven when my Grandad died and I still have the silver pen that was bought for me as a special gift. I used it for my O-levels, degree papers, etc. It really is my special pen.
