Eggs per year?

Recommended Posts

I don't know an exact figure but I'd guess 280 + eggs a year.

The age a chicken stops laying depends a lot on the breed. A hybrid will lay for a couple of years and a pure breed longer as they have a break over the winter months. The same applies to length of life. A hybrid won't live as long as a pure breed.

None of the above is set in stone it is just a quick generalisation.

If you mean the brown ones, RIR rooster with LS hens, they are egg laying machine, about 250 per year, very greedy, will trash you garden, very friendly with humans "looking for treats", brutal with other hens, rarely get broody. they lay for 2 to 3 years, but reduce laying significantly after 2 years

If you mean LS rooster with RIR hens, they are the amber star, I have never had them, but they are good layers as well.

If they are Amber stars then about 300 eggs a year :D according to the web site I just checked. If you go to www.hens4homes.co.uk and Then pictures of pol hens you can check which hens they look like, click on the picture and you should get some info. including the average number of eggs per year. If it isn't enough you will just have to buy more hens
