As the chicks are now in a permanent site in the WIR I thought I should use some stalosan F when I clean them out today. I've never used it before - so do I just sprinkle it on the floor, under the new woodchip and on the bare earth where they freerange? The chap who I bought it from said to wear gloves when I use it, so what about the chicks walking around on it? :anxious:

ues jst dust it over the earth, lay the woodchip down then dust a bit more for luck! just get a handful and scatter it

I dont wear gloves when using it but I am careful not to breathe in too much of the dust as it can make you cough - same with the hens, it can make them sneeze but the dust only lasts for a few mins

The hens are fine to walk on it - some of mine insist on eating it too - I dont think its ideal but it doesnt do them any harm!

Well used the stalosan this afternoon - Not sure if I agree with Egluntine about the smell as I was trying not to inhale any of it!!

Girls were very funny when I let them back as they had the full garden to range in while I was cleaning the run and generally moving stuff around. They came back in and strutted around for ages as if to say "now I know there's something different...but I'm not sure what!!":lol::lol:

I bought a pack of those face masks for decorating from B&Q - helps if you don't like inhaling it! (Just make sure you don't wear one where the neighbours can see you .)

My neighbours are quite used to seeing strange stuff in the garden. When I run classes for smoke firing or raku we all wear masks and goggles, and stand around dustbins watching pots !! I'm sure they think I'm in some sort of coven (particularly when I got the chicks)

I used to use Stalosan, but changed to BioDri as it's less dusty. It hasn't got the same lovely Germolene smell but does the job very well. I also sprinkle a bit in the bottom of the wheelie bin to keep it fresh, and in the bunnies' litter tray.

Wheelie bin! Thanks Claret will do that tomorrow. Why didn't I think of that?

:lol: I just love this forum, its a great pick you up when feeling a bit down. The mind boggles at the ingenuity

of you all and the ideas you come up with.....will put some stalosan in the wheelie it needs it at times.

I use stalosan in the wir and give it a good scatter before racking the chips over weekly.

I do a bit of poo picking daily when the girls are going to bed , while i still have some light.

I have put a bit in the cats litter tray during the winter months as the cat needs to stay in ocassionally.
