Chicken deficient

How many chickens in a walk in run?

Recommended Posts

I have two WIRs for the chickens.

The first is 5m x 7m and houses 27 ( mixture of LF, hybrids & bantams).

The second is 2m x 5m and houses 15 pekin (not my choice). I had nine pekins in there but they free range every day with another six pekins. At the end of every day they all choose to go to bed together. I have given up trying to put them in a separate eglu each night now. Instead, I've built mezzanine levels to increase floor space.

our WIR is 12' square and houses 10 chooks and 2 rabbits - but they also have 12sqm of electric fencing for all day everyday FR. the best thing I find about the WIR is that if I dont want to go out first thing in the morning to let them out, I dont have to. and despite all that FR area, they spend a LOT of time in the nice cosy WIR!!

the quail are also going to go into the WIR (in a 2 tier rabbit hutch) after this morning's disaster (see chicken memorials and my thread on the quail board if you want to know more)

8.75 sq metres and I have three big girls and three bantams. There is masses of room in there for them and I could probably have another three big girls or four/five banties without problem. However I like that they have plenty of space, and I'd confine myself to maybe one or two more big girls at max.
