I'm Getting Some Foster Kittens.

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited tonight! I've volunteered for Milton Keynes & District Cats Protection for 12 years now. Since moving to Faringdon I've carried on handrearing kittens as and when needed but haven't had any fosters for about two years now. This afternoon I had a phonecall about a litter of kittens that were born in someones garden. Their mum has an owner, not a very good owner because she knew her cat was pregnant yet again and that the kittens were goodness knows where  So whilst mum is now semi-feral her kittens are totally wild. One of the neighbours managed to catch two of them this afternoon and they're now waiting for me at my parents house in MK. Two little black hissing spitting balls of fur  The neighbours will attempt to catch the remaining kitten but it's quite determined to remain feral. I think we'll probably set a trap for it. The same cat had nine kittens in the summer which now seem to be dotted around the street with various people. I know what I'd like to do to the owner......

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww they are sooooooooooooooo cute! I'm so in love with them already, bless their little socks. A boy and a girl, as yet no names but I'm sure by the time all of my daughters have seen them they'll be burdened with something ridiculous while they're here  They're about 5/6 weeks old, black & white and actually a lot more chilled out than I thought they would be. They're not very gobby and they tolerate handling.

My mum said they hadn't eaten any solids at all while they were with her overnight so they've just had their first lesson in how to eat grub. I'm amazed, they caught on really quickly. I put some on my fingers and she was quite happy to lick it off. My fingers gradually got nearer to the bowl until she put two and two together and realised that was the source of the yummy food  He was a bit more reluctant but he got the hang of it eventually. He's had a wee in his litter tray and they're now curled up fast asleep after their traumatic 24 hours. Poor little things.

A trap is in place to catch hopefully mum and the remaining kitten.

Photos to follow later :D

Mum and kitten number three have been caught and just like these guys will be spending the night at my parents house and I'll be driving all the way back to MK tomorrow to collect them. My rabbit is booked in to my vets to be spayed on Friday and will now be joined by the mummy cat who will also be spayed.

sooooo gorgeous! go on - you're going to keep them arent you?!!

No no no no no no no no no!

Fudge & Chandler were today reunited with mum, now named Willow, and their sister Mildred :D Willow thought I'd made her babies filthy dirty and spent ages washing them  She's now eating me out of house and home  I'd forgotten just how much a lactating cat could eat!

I fostered these guys for months, they were still quite nervous, but eventually went back to MK in the hope of finding homes. Well they're all still waiting :( They're nervous wrecks and hide from everybody. So I've offered to adopt Chandler :D He was happy enough here, we could at least handle him, I just hope he hasn't forgotten us and that he improves in leaps and bounds once he's home. I can't wait to see them all again when I go to collect him on Saturday.

Chandler is coming home

He's been home a week now and just gets better every day :D He's less nervous and I'm now able to walk into a room without him dashing out of it  Infact this afternoon he didn't bother getting up from his nap in Georgias bedroom when we went in there to sort through some clothes. He really misses his mum though, he cries at night  The second he came home we put a collar with a bell on him and now no matter how hard he tries I can always find him by following the noise. It was a brilliant idea to do that. The weirdest thing is that he remembers our other cats but they don't recognise him  This has lead to a few strange moments where Ruby has been gobbing off at him and he has completely ignored her  I think she actually likes him being around though, she's been playing with him and we've not seen her play with any other cat since the sudden death of her brother two years ago. I've been forcing him to have cuddles and he's tolerating them for longer. The day he purrs will be one of the happiest of my life :D I love him to bits and I'm so glad he's home.

I'm so sad though that his two sisters are still in foster care. I know I've had a slight advantage because he already knows me a little but it's been so easy to care for him and so rewarding to see a much happier more relaxed cat emerging. I really wish we could find somebody willing to take on the challenge of his sisters.

I'll upload some photos later.

I forgot to say, he's grown into his long fur  When I last saw him he had semi-longhair but now on his body it's short. He has a fluffy tail though and long hair between his toes  He's been hard to photograph so these aren't brilliant. I hope to be able to take better ones of his handsomeness soon.
