Chicken shack
Took Daisy back to the vets this evening but she took a turn fo the worse while we were there and was gasping for breath. The vet thought that it was kinder to let her go although he said it was my decision. I wish they would make it for us. So rest in piece little bird. The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that, sad news. Lameness due to calcium deficiency will right itself pretty quickly when limestone flour and cod liver oil are added to a wet mash. I always give any ailing hen some Nutridrops, which picks them up pretty quickly. Mareks presents different symptoms in the early stages; it usually starts with lameness in one leg and wing with the bird resting on its hocks, spreading to both legs and wings in a matter of hours. Marek's can kill quickly, or the bird can progress through the symptoms more slowly, may even seem to recover only to die later of cancerous growths on the nerve endings. It is kindest to cull the bird as soon as you suspect it has Marek's.
