MissSilkie
I recently have had a problem with red mite so I went online and looked for ways of killing them. I found that Coke kills them! It really works! All my mite are DEAD! Just thought I would let you know!

Plum
That's a new one how did you use it
MissSilkie
I put the coke into a little sprayer thing that you use on plants and just sprayed in right on the mites and it kills almost instantly by breaking through the waxy coating. I wouldn't recommend spraying it on the birds, but it is fine to use on the house and it doesn't harm them! If you have anymore questions just ask! Shirl
It must be cheaper than those sprays you can buy. I know I spent a fortune the year we were unlucky enough to have a visit from them. I hope cheap cola works as well though, I don't think I'd like to spray proper coke around as I'm a bit of an addict (sorry I mean coca cola nothing in powder form ). MissSilkie
LOL! No normal coke you buy fromthe shop works perfectly! It is WAY cheaper!
MissSilkie
It is an active ingredient in coke that kills them so i am sure the brand doesn't matter!
Stella14
Do you know what the active ingredient is?

jackie45
Hi It's the phosphoric acid in the coke that will be the active ingredient. Make you wonder what it does to our insides!! Jackie

Stella14
My partner, science dude, said the phosphoric acid in cola is much less concentrated than the acid in our stomachs. The stomach is very acidic and protected by a mucus layer (but it will rot your teeth). Therefore, it doesn't cause us any problems! He has an answer for everything! Good job he's cute

Egluntyne
I'm not sure that I will be trying it. There are several sites on 'tinterweb which do suggest it as a remedy.
MissSilkie
Can't remember myself what the active ingredient was but thanks to the people that did!
MissSilkie
It hasn't given me any trouble. Doesn't seem to make the hen house sticky either....
Snowy
Is this a wind up Spraying sugary coke around your house should give you a host of other problems to worry about. At the height of red mite season, I don't fancy wasps and ants in the cube as well. I only have to let one of the boys in the garden with the remnants of a fizzy drink and we are inundated with wasps. Think I'll stick to my Poultry Shield

Snowy
Hadn't really thought about it - I don't buy fizzy stuff myself, but friends sometimes bring it round. I'm sure some of it was sugar free and the wasps still come around

Redwing
There are several good purpose made things to treat and prevent red mite, I dont see why you'd attempt to use a home remedy that (as someone has pointed out) will only attract other pests
