Make sure you're not short of heating oil.

My neighbour phone me this morning (only lives nextdoor  ) to say that when he phoned his normal oil supplier they said that they couldn't supply him until the middle of January. When he phoned around no one else he tried would supply anyone that wasn't already a customer. Thankfully our supplier can get some oil to us Dec 16th and said they would supply our neighbour at the same time. It would appear that things are a bit tight for oil at the moment (around here at least).

I'm in cambs and have just had to wait a week even though we have an account. Another warning too -I was very shocked at the price and apparently it went up significantly the day before I ordered :( when we moved here 5 years ago it cost us around about £300 to fill our tank and this time it cost £560!!!

Maybe the price has gone up so drastically in our area as we are probably worst affected by the weather.

We had around 4 feet of snow which had now turned to black ice around 4-6'' thick on the roads that have had cars on them (most haven't - I haven't managed to get to work for a week and I'm self employed :boohoo: )

Any excuse to put the price up

Had a note in my diary to order this week which I wrote about a month ago (when the price was around 45p) just got in for a pre-Xmas delivery at 60p ! Doh !

Beware of Boilerjiuce, I have always found I can get at least 5p cheaper than them by phoning direct.

BOILERJUICE Not for me. Cheaper elsewhere!!!! I got a spam email from them but decided to follow it up :(

Boilerjuice are agents. They don't actually sell oil themselves and they won't tell you who your supplier is until you've paid them. Also no comeback if you're short supplied. This has happened to me. I paid for 1000 litres but only 800 were put in the tank.

Stick with your local supplier.

They won't baulk at small top ups and will deliver whatever the weather.

The cheapest I got it for was 28ppl, although a year later it was 63ppl :shock: We usually pay around 35-40p, but hopefully won't need any for a couple of months - fingers crossed.

I tend to light the lounge fire if it just me at home alone. The house gets absolutely freezing, even though I keep the thermostat to around 16/18C. We had cavity wall insulation a couple of years ago, which does help. Sometimes you just have to turn it up!

My OH 'forgot' to order oil and logs in the summer and is now really stressed that we are going to run out of oil before our delivery which we have to wait about 10 days for ( and at the moment they wouldn't get down our lane in the snow). I've now stupidly made things worse by telling him about the oil prices  so he says we will have to drastically cut down on our order  .

This is the same person who said our wood burning stoves weren't giving out enough heat and when I showed him how to increase the heat had a panic about the number of logs we were using :wall: .

Think I'll go off to warmer climes for the rest of the winter

We had no problems here,

Other half calls quite a few before ordering but they found the cheapest for us this time.

The are a bit like most price comparison websites.

We seem to be going through oil really quickly.

I am trying to keep the heating as low as possible, but it is just so cold.

Checked the price of oil locally and it ranges from 65-75ppl with delivery dates up to the 13th January. We were hoping to wait until February to get oil, but that doesn't seem possible with if this cold spell continues.

I ordered oil at the beginning of December to be told that delivery might not be till the end of the month. Lo and behold a tanker appeared two days later. I asked the driver if he could just top up the tank to full rather than the 500litres ordered which he did and we now have a full tank and we have a whole tree worth of wood stacked up for the log burner :D
