Noisy Silky

Recommended Posts

Our nearly 3 year old Silky has become really squawky, she's begining to sound a bit like a cockerel at times  She's always been chatty when she is in lay but it use to be a sweet little non stop chatter, this time she's just really screeching from just before it gets light for most of the day. I'm worried the neighbours will get fed up with the noise, especially if she's like this come summer when everyone has their doors and windows open :anxious:

Anyone else had this happen with their Silky?

My other girls (an Orp and 3 hybrids) are really quiet at the moment (she says touching wood), but they are moulting and not laying.

I have five silkies, all this years and one is very noisy and demanding. We have just been away for a few days, my daughter chicken sat but was worried about letting them freerange and by day three Henrietta was driving her mad. In the end she let them out and she was fine then so maybe yours is bored. However henritta sqwawkes her head off at all sorts, when pigeons are around, when she lays an egg, if she sees me at the kitchen window! So it's quite normal for her, the others are chatty so not sure what would have made yours change in behaviour.

Ours does it when she can't get in the nesting box when she's broody (which she is at the moment). She will continue to complain loudly until she can get back in there - and with a queue of other birds wanting to lay and hogging the box (not that's a problem at the moment) she can go on and on and on.

Lisa-Marie who's only a bit silkie has just discovered her voice and egg laying (Xmas day) having been a silent menace since I got her in August.

She now shouts about and at anything. I keep telling her she'll get an asbo or that the neighbours will eat her for dinner.

I have three Silkie crosses. Pipa can be really noisy and Fey who has just started laying can be fairly vocal with her egg annoucements. My silkie Frizzle cross is silent at the moment but not sure how long it will last.

I had a Silkie cross Coco and she would screech for about 15 - 20 mins at the same time everyday, she was PTS a few months ago, the garden has been a much quieter place without her.
