chickerdee
Hi, I hope someone can help me! Last June Pixie had her first bout of broodiness, she sat on the nest for just over 3 weeks. She had stripped her chest feathers as they do but she has still not regrown them! I have checked her and she has no infestation and she is eating, drinking and laying fine. I can only think she is plucking them out but again have seen no evidence of this. Anyone have any idea what is going on? Thanks Gill Pixie Wilma
Henslaved
One of my girls was like this for months , she even lost most of the feathers on her head (I did consider making her a hat like Ginger from Chicken Run ). But slowly (very slowly) they started to re-appear, and she has only just recently grown some lovely new head feathers and a few chest feathers . I'm no expert but I think some chickens are just rubbish at growing new feathers Maybe try giving her some xtra protein (mealworms)!!! Christian
They probably won't grow back until she has her annual moult.

suzallie
Hi..It was a relief to see your posts. I Noticed that my Blondie (Gingernut ranger) nearly six months old, had developed a bare bit of chest, and now when I checked her over has the same on both sides of her tummy. I couldn't see any little beasties,a nd she is eating well and laying. I can't see any loose feathers about the place, and I noticed today that her partrner Ginger has a few missing feathers too. I thought that chickens moulted in October time? Is this normal?? I wondered if it was boredom initially becasue of being a bit snowed in, but they have been able to free range for 3-4 weeks now. I have amde sure that I anm feeding them 'chicken tonic and chicken spice plus their warm porridge. Any other ideas? Thanks you in anticiaption..Suzallie
Ewsee
Hello I have been keeping chickens for over a year now, and a while ago my chickens went broody and moulted, I was concerned because in some places the feathers had grown faster and in other parts there were bold parts, make sure that you check that your chicken is not being pecked by another chicken or itself.... It takes a while for every feather to grown back fully, don't worry, my chickens were and are fine. (touch wood) Hope this helped.
