megalin
Hello, Just been inspecting the girls. They have pretty dry combs. Not crusty dry and doesnt seem to be bothering them. Just wondering what this means? I've tried to rub some oil into them but they hate me for it so I gave up! Might it mean they need more oil in their diet? Just got our Garvo feed in today, hoping it might get them through the molt a bit quicker, perhaps that might help it too.
Redwing
They are getting a bit dry in this cool windy weather I use a little gentel hand cream to keep the combs on my lot healthy but it probably isnt needed unless its very very cold - it just makes me feel better A little oil in the diet wont go amiss but probably wont help a great deal with comb condition
megalin
That's what I was trying to do but the girls just shout at me if I go near their combs! I may give it another shot anyway. My grandad always used to moan about me moisturizing his dry hands! never thought chickens would too
oneyolktoanother
2 of ours have a right strop when you put vaseline on their combs there like teenagers but the other 2 don't seem to mind at all
Henslaved
Mine hate their combs being fiddled with too I use a little hand cream or vaseline. Only Greta has a dry comb at the moment, does it always happen when they're going through a heavy moult?. I agree with Redwing though, it probably isn't necessary but it does make you feel better
