Old Speckled Hen
I was talking to MIL the other day (She is taking Flash and Top Hen for the odd weekend we go away househunting) and she said when the kids were young they used to keep banties and the odd one would disappear somewhere in the nearby railway banking and return later with little ones that looked like bumblebees Can you imagine, sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
The Dogmother
The sweetest little bumblebees are quail chicks, they are just sooo tiny.
Old Speckled Hen
Case closed Keeping Flash in has obviously done the trick. I'm letting him out at 7.30. Can't wait to move where he can crow to his heart's content. Thanks, everybody for your support.

scarlettohara
That's fantastic news! I have copied what you do with Flash with Freckles and don't let him out until 8 am. As yet have had no complaints
Old Speckled Hen
Scarlett, it's a nuisance to have to do it but he doesn't seem to mind. He runs round to his hens with one wing dropped, treads a couple and then has breakfast I'm sure you won't have anybody bother your Freckles for day time crowing. Last weekend we were away so he and one chook stayed with MIL. She thought he was wonderful I'm reading all those horror stories about aggressive cockerels and hope he's OK; he's only 9 months old. Perhaps all that handling at night and morning will remind him who's boss
karlotta
He's gorgeous! I bet my two Vorwerk girls would much rather be wooed by Flash rather than my rather randy Gold Lace Poland boy! I keep my two boys in till about 7.30ish and fingers crossed no trouble so far.. (touch wood!)
