The Dogmother
Just emailed an old friend in QLD to wish her luck after reading this... The biggest cyclone ever to hit Australia will cross the coast of North Queensland at midnight tonight, Qld time. It's a category 5, which is the strongest storm possible- winds of 300km/hr plus. There will be a 3 metre storm surge, flooding low lying parts of cities such as Cairns and Townsville. The storm is so strong it will continue to move inland and will still be a category 3 a few hundred kms inland. The Dogmother
Watching the webcam reminds me of our hurricane in '87, only this cyclone will be much worse... it's big enough now to cover the US apparently
Seagazer
It has been so awful for them over there. At least they have had some time to prepare themselves as much as they can for it.
gongladosh
it doesn't look good - a massive cyclone is the last thing they need there right now...
bluekarin
I have just got my hubby to check exactly where our friends live, as they are in Brisbane. Luckily for them its about 200 miles north of them. Just hope it doesn't change. How horrible for everyone. It was so sad to hear on the news today that people were being turned away from shelters! I just hope the loss isn't too high, if at all
The Dogmother
I just heard from my friend, they are OK and further south, so not really affected. She sent me this news link with a video of the cyclone
