lougarbard
Well, long story! My friend was very jealous of the 'green' eggs my legbars had been laying for the last couple of weeks, so, she said she wanted some green / blue layers also! (Remember that 'I' am not actually chicken hunting!) So... I suggested she get something different to Cream Legbars to see if there were any difference in eggs, so we started hunting around and decided on Lavender Araucanas, because of pretty hen and egg colour, but as she didnt really want to hatch or incubate, the chance of finding point of lay , in Cornwall(!) became very scarce! So onto Devon! We left a couple of messages and sent a few e-mails, and waited...... for about an hour! By which time my friend had gone home. Then a neighbours Grandson knocked on door and asked "Do you want to buy a couple of hens??? They lay green eggs! "he said!! I couldnt believe it. I have had hens for almost 3 years,, and NEVER, has anyone knocked on my door and said about hens for free or for sale! Let alone ones that lay green eggs! I told him, "Yes, one of us, would definatley have them"! So then I phoned my friend, who said she would come down and look right now, and she did and she had them, I am waiting for her to send me a picture, because in all our hunting, we did come across exactly the same hen., but they are definatley NOT cream legbars! One is very Bluebelle looking with a pointed rose comb, but they both seem very placid. But then later that evening, one of the contacts we made earlier in the day got back to us, and now on saturday we are going 70 miles ( like I said, not very common in Cornwall!) to get some Lavender Araucanas.........but I have since seen that she also sells Burford browns (very brown eggs!) .....so may come back with one of each or maybe 3 altogether! (Even tho, 'I' wasnt actually looking!) Sorry about long winded story, but the events have been quite amusing to us! Will post pics once new girls arrive! Purplemaniacs
How eggciting An amazing story, I don't think any of my neighbours are likely to knock on my door with chickens. Looking forward to seeing photos of the new ones, three would seem a good number Chrissie

lougarbard
Well after a 150 mile round trip, my friend came home with 2 Lavender Araucanas and I had one Lavender Araucana (she only had 3 for sale) and a Burford Brown cross, who is not quite laying yet, but that was the only other P.O.L she had to sell. They are all settled in their new home, will post pics tomorrow!
