Attempted predator attack

Recommended Posts

Weasels and stoats are much smaller than a domestic cat - I've had the pleasure of watching both of them :)

I wonder about mink though, particularly as you mention the stream is one of your boundaries. They are ferocious predators. Except for the poorly one my bantams encountered a few years ago - they refused to go to bed one night and when I went out to investigate there was one curled up on their bedroom! It had been injured and was quite poorly, so it was little threat to them. :(

I am thinking something along the Mink/Weasel line or a light coloured Fox too.

It was about large domestic cat sized,I would say,but moved in a much different way to a cat. A Weasel type creature would fit the bill.

If you're sure it was the size of a large cat, then you're definitely looking at a fox rather than anything Weasel/Ferret related.

Perhaps you have a rare albino fox locally? That'd be pretty amazing!

Have found references on the net about foxes having green eyes in some torch light. Prefer to think it is Basil than some big cat......

All Nocturnal hunters have reflective eyes...it's the light reflecting and the colour seen is dependent on the eye colour. For example, my dog has blue eyes so his reflect red...but most will reflect green. So sadly, it's not a way to identify the species.

The fox that came up to me and rubbed itself into me was a small (Id say adolescent) fox which wasnt the red we are used to seeing. This one was small (I thought it was my cat at first) and almost a sanyish colour.

Im glad your girls are ok now. Takes them a while to settle after a scare, well mine do...there again they know they get extra treats. Chickens are as crafty as foxes at times :D
