Oh no - Mittens has proplapsed :( Sad Update

Recommended Posts

Found a blood smeared egg earlier this afernoon but that's not too unusual (only a tiny smear) - I did a quick scan of the flock and they all looked fine. Just been out to clean the Eglu and noticed that Mittens' bum looked muckier than usual - she's white and after all this wet weather I didn't think it too out of the ordinary. Anyway, she hopped onto the top of the run so I took the opportunity to run round and check her backside. She doesn't like being handled particularly so it didn't last long but I think she's had a prolapse. OH is zooming back from his day out on his motorbike as we speak to help me deal with her - but I have a feeling it's not going to be a happy ending.

Haggis (Sweetie) had a proplapse before and it was a harrowing experience trying to put her right - she lasted less than 24 hours before being PTS at the vets.

So, wish me luck, anusol and laytex gloves are at the ready :vom:

(Thanks to Plum who is on standby to help me out if I need her as OH is jetting off on business tonight for a week)

Love the way Plum says "we" like I did something!! Nurse Plum was brilliant and Mittens was like putty in her hands - flippin' bird flaps and tries to do a mad dash when ever we go near her!!

She looked ok this morning but it was still dark when I left plus the run is in complete darkness to hopefully put her off laying for a while.

Nurse Plum is coming back later on to help me check her over. I don't know what we would have done without her yesterday - I know i need some confidence building lessons
