AJuff
I am taking my Grade 2 piano next Thursday and already I get nervous just thinking about it. I was so scared when I took my Grade 1 that I'm sure the examiner heard my heart thumping. Anyone got a remedy for calming nerves?
LeeMeadfan
Bach flower remedies - thay do 'specific' ones, but also 'Rescue Remedy'. Not used them myself but some people highly recommend them!
emily95
I swear by Kalms! Good luck for your piano exam. I used to be terrified of them, until my piano teacher told me to enjoy it, and just play for myself. It sounds quite hard to do, but if you walk in feeling confident and try to ignore the person watching you, you'll feel much less nervous and have a better time. Good luck! Mrs Webmuppet
Good luck with the exam. Which pieces are you doing? I'm working on grade 2 pieces at the moment (the 2011-12 book), I'm learning Suite de la rejouissance, the Sandman and Cloudy Day ( one of the extra options - couldn't get on with the 3 choice pieces in the grade 2 book). I'm sure you will be fine, I had to play a piece of music ( Gymnopedie no 1 by Erik Satie) on a Steinway Grand Piano in front of a group of strangers last year and my piano teacher said just concentrate on the music and ignore everything else. It worked total concentration on the music and the timing and I got through it.
Gertie
Good luck. I bought some rescue remedy pastilles lately. I didn't really think they would make much difference, but I ate 2 before a horrible meeting and I did feel better!!

RR does work, I had my first field trial back in Jan and was sooooo nervous, The drops just took the edge off a little. Good Luck!
AJuff
My pieces are from the 'old' 2009/2010 book so I have to take the exam before the end of term. I'm doing Mozzie, Snowdrop and Gypsy Dance. Will purchase some of the suggested remedies tomorrow.
C&T
Just believe in yourself! You would not be entered if you couldn't do it - just try to relax and enjoy the music

AJuff
Urg I feel almost sick with nerves! Ds has brought me tea to help. My exam is tomorrow after work, I have Bach flower remedy spray, neurofen in case of a difficult teaching day and a banana ready. ABRSM forum says eating a banana an hour before helps nerves. What worries me is letting my lovely piano teacher down and failing outright. If that happens I'll have to resit with the new pieces. MedusA
The very best of luck. If it's any consolation DD used to feel like this before every piano exam and she still managed to get as far as Grade 6. I always believe a small case of nerves makes you perform better anyway. I also swear by Rescue Remedy.
Olly
Good luck - remember, it's adrenaline, not fear - use it to fuel your performance!

AJuff
Phew so pleased that's out of the way. Er how did I do . . Well my first piece went well until bar 6 when I lost the plot and stopped! OOps the examiner was very nice and let me start again (marks lost here!), it went fine second time. Second and third pieces ok but not brill either. Scales much better than expected but then I have spent literally months working on them. Sight reading ok but not perfect. Aural ok, sing back not brill. So on the whole ok, enough to get through?
