I predict a weather change...cos my speckeldy's gone broody

Recommended Posts

Two of my silkie crosses have been broody for over two weeks now and my third one joined them yesterday. I got fed up with them and have booted them out of the big house into the sin bin where hopefully as none of them are laying they will have no eggs to sit on. They seem to be geting back to normal after 24 hours of seperation but they can stay in there a bit longer. I nicknamed them the witches of eastwick, little madams.

I take it Wyandotte's are prone to broodiness. Do Aruacana's and Appenzellers go broody at all by any chance? Hope not. When I lift my little Wyandotte out of the coop she just plants herself on the ground stubbornly and doesn't move until she cools down and then runs back in the coop omitting food and water on route, am quite concerned she doesnt eat/drink enough :?:

Sounds broody Sharon. If you are concerned you could try dunking her in cold water to get her out of it or you could put her in a dog crate on bricks with food and water for 3 days to enable her to cool down. Seems harsh but I believe it works.

I would love to hatch eggs under my broody but I couldn't deal with any cockerels. What will you do with yours Mollie? I thought about Cream Legbars as you can tell their sex at 1 day old apparently but I couldn't kill a cute fluffy chick.
