Mercedes55
We're going to be looking to get one soon to The house we've just moved to has space for an intergrated one. I would love to have integrate appliances but we bought our kitchen units from MFI and they discontinued the doors we have in our kitchen long before the company went bust, so have to make do with freestanding ones. We are having to rearrange out kitchen now as we don't actually have space for a dishwasher. So the dishwasher is going where the washing machine currently is and we are getting rid of the tumble dryer, which I only use about once a week, and have ordered a washer/dryer that is going where the dryer currently is. Luckily the previous people here had a washing machine and a dishwasher so the plumbing is there for both
Daphne
My mother wanted us to have a dishwasher for years because hers was so marvellous. I spent years telling her there was no room in our kitchen for one. Eventually when my job required a 4 hour commute every day I caved in. Although I now don't commute at all, its the best money I've ever spent ever We fill it up during day, switch on overnight and everything clean and sparkling in the morning. It gets things far cleaner than I ever did; I think because it works at higher temperatures. We are in a soft water area and I use cheapo powder (I buy it in giant kegs and decant into something more manageable) and rinse aid, and salt once in a blue moon. We've had ours about 8 years now and its fabulous. As I get older I find its increasingly true that 'mothers know best'
Redwing
our current house doesnt have room for a dishwasher and I really miss having one You wouldnt believe the stuff that got dismantled and washed in our old one - you certainly wouldnt eat in our house then if you knew! if it was waterproof it went in the dishwasher - beats dusting! Some dishwashers can be set to wash only one tray (usually the top one) and so use even less water My husbands great theory is that if you have two dishwashers (one clean and one dirty at any one time) you wouldnt need cupboards if you meet him dont ever get him started on that one - I think he needs to get out more! No, that's just 'Boy Thinking' Tasha - Phil is the same. He loves my dishwasher and was instrumental in talking me into having the free one when I did the kitchen He doesn't cook (well, really badly) so when he's around at weekends, he cleans up and I cook which suits me, but I still have the blasted dishwasher for the rest of the week! Olly
I also put detachable bits from the cooker in there, and I regularly put my stainless steel beekeeping hive tool through to get rid of wax and propolis. My brother, who is a builder, once put his site hat through the dishwasher, he said it came up beautifully clean!
Old Speckled Hen
Once a week all the removable bits from my cooker go through the DW too, so it really pays its way It's absolutely brill for that and for slimey spitty dog and cat bowls. I must admit it gets dishes sparkling clean. My family...OH's really as mine is miles away...is banned from hand washing dishes after sunday lunch, even though they offer. They don't do it properly and there is nothing worse than picking up a greasy plate next time you eat.....YUK!!!!
ClaireG
Does anyone know how we measure for an intergrated one? We've measured the width of the cupboard door and the height from worktop to floor, as we understand the plinth comes out but need to know if the back board part of the cupboard comes away. If not, i think the landlord has been told porkies by the housing company. As the cupboard isn't deep enough
Lesley
Not sure about measuring for an integrated one Claire........we removed ours when it died and replaced with a freestanding one as they generally have more room. I used to buy Lego blocks and figures from Ebay for grandchildren and that always went in the dishwasher, in a net bag, but def. no spitty, slimey dog bowls in the dishwasher - that's what husbands are for . Oh I don't know, not much different to a chicken poo spattered grub and let's face it temperatures are quite high in a dishwasher, safer than washing in a sink .... unless you have a dedicated utility sink used for animal dishes. Yes, we do have a separate sink and brushes - I could cope if all the animal stuff was washed in one big wash but I couldn't put animal stuff in with our stuff.....even if it boiled it

Purplemaniacs
Does anyone know how we measure for an intergrated one? Not sure how you measure but when the integrated one that was here when we moved in broke and we had to replace it I nearly killed me trying to get the new one into the space, DS (17 year old) was away so I was the labourer while OH did the technical bits . Make sure you have lots of help when you fit it!! Chrissie
Mercedes55
Well I finally have my new dishwasher, but as it didn't arrive until 9.45pm it's just sitting in the kitchen. It was supposed come between 3pm and 9pm, so when it hadn't arrived at 9pm I phoned JL only to be told if it didn't come then to phone them tomorrow to rearrange delivery, can't say I was very impressed. Now I am thinking something inside is broken as there is a loose thing inside that has BOSCH written on it that looks like it's supposed to be clipped onto the top basket at the front, but the clips on the back are broken off, least that is how it seems. I am going to have to pop into our local Comet, which is nearer, and have a nose at the Bosch machines there to see where that bit goes. The machine came with only 2 cleaning tablets, those all in one types. On reading the literature however it recommends using solo products, so you would have thought they would have supplied those instead of the all in ones
abwsco
How annoying for you. Hope it's easily sorted out if it is a broken part.
Mercedes55
Well it would seem that the tablet collecting tray is the broken part. It's supposed to clip onto the top basket and I guess the cleaning tablets fall out into it at some point, although I'm not sure. I did phone JL and complain as when I looked on their website the dishwasher is now selling at £20 less than we paid for it I've always been very pleased with Bosch in the past and all the appliances in our kitchen are Bosch. Next week we are getting our new Bosch washer/dryer and I can only cross my fingers and hope there won't be something broken on that too
Margalot
Or last dishwahser was a bosch and we found a round part loose that we have never found a use for and after looking through all the literature it never said what it was! so we have never attached it and everything is fine. The tablets/powder go in the little sqaure box attached to the door?? is that what you mean? Michelle

The detergent dispenser opens automatically at the optimum time depending on the programme. The powder or liquid detergent is distributed in the appliance and is dissolved, the tablet falls into the tablet collecting tray where it dissolves in doses. I copied the above from the manual, so from what I gather it's the tablet collecting tray that we found loose in the machine, which in fact should be clipped over the front of the top basket. The round part you had might be the baking sheet spray head, it does mention one of those in the manual

Mercedes55
Well after less than a week of using my dishwasher I am wondering why I have one. Loading it seems to take me ages as things have to be put in a certain way. I'm rinsing off everything before it goes in, which seems a bit daft. As we live in quite a hard water area even if I used the "all in one" tablets I would still have to add salt and rinse aid, so haven't even bothered getting any of them. Last night I actually put my stainless steel saucepans in, after rinsing them out first. After 2hrs of washing they came out exactly the same as they went in. I have no problem with the other things I put in there, crockery, cutlery, glasses, all come out lovely and sparkling, but it does take an hour for that. This morning I filled the kitchen sink with hot water and promptly handwashed the breakfast dishes. So much easier
The Dogmother
I do the same Mercedes55 - the dishwasher is now mainly used for the animal bowls and feeders As soon as it goes wrong, the darned thing is going to be whipped out and replaced with a much-needed cupboard
