Tina C
Southwold in Suffolk - old-fashioned seaside Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall - and Kynance Cove Was"Ooops, word censored!"er in the Lake District and any of the 'big' ones up there - especially Helvellyn and Striding Edge. (Tamworth Castle - that one surprised me - I used to play hide and seek in there with my friends after swimming on Sundays. It is a lovely Norman castle but not very big and not very well-known) Wouldn't it be lovely to take a year off just to travel round our beautiful country? But New Zealand sounds great too. Cate in NZ
This is turning into a brilliant thread, thanks for the ideas everyone . I'm sure I'll never get to all these places, either that or do as Lesley suggests and forfeit my own bed for a year as I tour Britain , but there's some fantastic ideas and I'm going to do my best and visit as many as I can
Martin B
Stonehenge and the White Horses of Wiltshire!
Cate in NZ
Ah-ha Martin, there's 2 I've already done . Excellent ideas though . I did Stonehenge a few *ahem* years ago when you were actually allowed to wander around freely and touch the stones etc. I didn't do that at dawn unfotunately, but it was totally awe inspiring anyway. We drove past Stonehenge again last year when we went to the big BHWT rescue and I stopped to let Immi have a look. It wasn't quite the same, being fenced off as it is these days, but still simply incredible A very special place to visit I agree

Cate in NZ
Come and see Stamford ! The finest stone town in all England . I've done Aberdeen (the granite city ) but never made it to the finest stone town. It sounds unmissable (Can I visit for a cup of tea? )

Snowy
Stamford looks beautiful - I drove through a couple of times on the way to my Dads and keep meaning to go back for a proper look. A real gem of a place.

Jools
Just got back from Plockton and it is the most wonderful place - as is all the west coast of Scotland - Knoydart, Skye, Torridon, Ullapool and the wilderness beyond. And make sure you visit Cumbria on your way up to Scotland - I could show you the best bits
