It's day 15/16 of the serama hatch

Recommended Posts

Stay calm, sometimes it can take up to 24 days, especially if the broody didn't settle particularly quickly at the start. What will be, will be, there's nothing you or Vera can do now but wait (longer!). She will decide for herself if/when the game is up and simply get off the eggs, or kick them out of the nest. If she's still sat at the moment, that's a good thing.

My eggs are cheeping! Vera keeps looking startled and muttering back to them

Yah 8). If Mum is looking a bit perplexed that's a great sign something is going on beneath her. Not long now I'd say. Try not to disturb her too much from this point, with activity underneath her she'll have enough to be worried about.

She's sat on five. The chick keeps wriggling about under her and she gets most disgruntled  She didn't peck viciously, more in a sort of 'Oh. What are you?' sort of way. That's normal, right? :anxious:

Yep, exactly the same behaviour as my Biscuit!

Once the rest hatch, it will dawn on her that patiently sitting on eggs is only half the story . It can take them a few days to settle to constantly watching over their new brood. Biscuit kept stepping on her new arrivals when I moved them all to the special sectioned off area of the WIR :?. She's OK now (or the chicks have worked out how to stay out the way of her feet!!!).
