beach chick
in that she is much less ginger than she was! her feathers look pale, tho her comb etc is normal. is this a sign of moult? I've noticed in the past that bluebells tend to go brown pre-moult, but this would be Ginger's first moult.
Falkor
Chooks feathers can fade in the sun. My buff Orp is about three and is no longer buff all over, she is kind of lemony cream in places. When she does moult they may come back her normal colour or may be slightly different again
Redwing
Many colours fade in the sunshine and pretty swiftly too sometimes! Its more noticeable towards moulting time as thats when the feathers are at their oldest Breeders of show chooks shade their pens to stop this happening but for the average garden layer it doesnt matter
beach chick
oh thanks for that everyone. I shall just let her go pale... and wait and see if she moults!
kerryegg
Hope she is o.k. After my Gingers first moult she regrew paler feathers and an almost beige neck ruff. Interesting about the sun though.
percy049
I read their feathers fade in the sun, which is why, like redwing said, keep them under cover. My ex-free range hens did all change colour though after their moult!
