Applying Ukadex... Any tips??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Due to one of our chooks taking a like to eating the others feathers, a bottle of the dreaded Ukadex arrived yesterday... So now we have to apply it...

Anyone got any tips on the best way to apply it? Other than wearing very old clothes/bin bags/gloves and making sure there is no washing out as we spray!

You've read all the warnings! Last time I needed to do it, a friend was round who's kept hens for years. To my amazement (and envy) he picked my hen up and held her underneath - with his arm outstretched, and his fingers between her legs. The hen didn't flap but sat on his hand quite calmly, he sprayed her and then said 'I don't know what all the fuss is about'! :evil: He didn't get a speck of the evil stuff on him.

If you can hold a hen like this, that's the best way. There was a description of this in P P magazine last year. I've tried. I still can't do it!

Either sneak up on them at bedtime, and squirt and run, or get a friend (needs to be a VERY good friend) to hold the target, and then -

Do it outside- but check which way the wind is blowing - you need it AWAY from you.

Wear old clothes- VERY old clothes as you won't want to wear them again.

Wear marigolds.

Dispose of said old clothes, marigolds and have a shower.

Good luck!

apply it naked

:lol::lol::lol:

The neighbours think we are mad enough already!

But having said that, now I've smelt it - I see your point!!

Well, it's been applied, and the evil chook is still pecking at the others. :wall::wall: I have a horrid feeling the next step will be a ring to her beak. Not looking forward to that one...
