beach chick
does anyone know? all the useful info has worn off, and it bears no signs of flowering or anything... I think it might be some kind of philadelphus but no real idea - and I planted the flippin thing!
Eggasperated
Looks like Philadelphus coronarius (Mock Orange) , probably 'Aureus' if the leaves are a golden colour. It should have scented white flowers in early summer.
beach chick
thank you eggasperated! I think you are right...
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm no good with identifying plants but it does look similar to one I have which is Choisya ternata 'Sundance' .
Old Speckled Hen
Yes, It's a choysia....it will flower but only when it's a few years old. Keep it
beach chick
ooh, change of thought here then! I'm not convinced its a choisya, dont they have quite shiny leaves? on the other hand, all my other philadelphus are flowering now, and this one has no sign of anything happening. it must have been in a couple of years I should think. Old Speckled Hen
There are different varieties of Choysia. I have four that look just like yours and when I bought them they were labelled as such. I inherited lots of "wait and sees" when I moved.....it was quite exciting
Bramble
Could it be a Cotinus (golden spirit, i think it's called) a golden smoke bush I think - not sure it looks like choisya ternata I think they flower a bit later, sort of July time - let us know if/when it does flower, then we can all guess again!!! I will keep an eye on it and when it does anything at all I will photograph from all angles for the botanists among you!
Bramble
It does look like a cotinus to me, their foliage is more usually red/bronze/copper coloured, but there's definitely a golden variety available - I'll be very interested to hear if/when it does flower!!!! beach chick
I will keep you posted. the label (which you can see in the pic) is very annoying. the only bit of print left says things like "focus plant" blah blah blah about how wonderful it will be. the OTHER side, which has completely faded is where all the useful info - like the name - was I must go and cut the darn thing off as it is completely useless. Daphne
I'm afraid it doesn't look like a choysia to me, the leaves don't look tough/glossy enough and its a bit leggy and mine is in flower now although I wouldn't use that as the deciding factor. I would plump for cotinus - the leaves are the right rounded shape, although I have to say I didn't realise you could get a gold variety; that could be very useful in the garden
beach chick
just googled cotinus aureus images, and it could well be one of those...
