Lewis
Have you seen their new "Heavy Duty and Clear Covers" Looks like they've finally realised and made a solution so we don't all have to use Ikea shower curtains! Look good, just expensive in comparison! Their WIR covers are a really good idea too, different shades for the roof and each side - if only they brought them out at the same time, think they would have sold more WIR's then! ashjc
Looks great but I would only want to use that in winter not summer.... as the sun through clear plastic would cook the chooks and provide no shade... I am assuming this is what these are designed for (winter)?
scarlettohara
I'm going to get 2 clear ones for the winter, Omlet stuff is so well made
Redwing
I use clear covers in the summer, as long as they dont cover the whole run then the chickens dont get too hot, I use a normal shade over the plastic on part of the run to provide some shade
Tweety
I think they are a great idea and have ordered one for the Go run, to replace the corrugated plastic affair that is currently protecting my chicks from the heavy downpours we are having. I too put a normal shade over part of the run to give them some shade.
The Dogmother
I do the same as Tasha, and fro £1.99 for an Ikea shower curtain, they are hard to beat on price. I can't believe how long we've been nagging Omlet for clear covers!
Tweety
The clear cover for my Go arrived today, and I have just attached it to the run. I am very pleased with it, and would definitely recommend it - good quality plastic, and it covers a fair way down the sides of the run too. Daphne
Hurrah....'bout time tho. I do hope they are thicker than the previous ones; mine have always ripped so I am currently using cheapo groundsheets which work a treat but are a very fetching grey colour
ashjc
On a slightly related note.... I have just bought the new thicker cube winter shades... they are about £3 more than the standard winter shade but made from what I think is tarporlin material. Look like the same kind of material that big articulated lorry trailer covers are made of. Have to say I am suitable impressed with the thickness and quality of these items (green). You can tell they are really going to last. Well worth the extra few quid guys
poppy ben grace
Just wish they had brought them out before i spent a fortune on the original ones!
Guest
hope the cube has settled in, Ash Sorry i wasn't there to meet you but we'd been out the night before for my birthday so i was having a bit of a lie-in What did you think of the quail eggs?
ashjc
Hi Poet, yes they have settled in great. I did wonder whether they would know where to go as my eglu was facing the other way and now I had introduced a ladder too! But no they found their way straight in the first night. They love the extra run space too. I had bought a 1 metre extension so they have a total of 3M length floor space now but take up the same room if not less than the classic. I also have the added benefit of not having to bend over to clean them out now so its make things a whole lot better for my back! Quail eggs were delicious thank you. Very kind. My wife took one look at me and said... you want some quail now dont you! They are kind of cute but we just dont have the space at the moment. We need to move first. On another note and the new omlet covers. I bought 2 of the new thicker winter covers for the cube. I think only £3 more than the standard winter covers. They are brilliant but do have one slight flaw. The added thickness to them means they catch on the cube roof when you want to open your cube. Has anyone else noticed this? Its not a dissaster though as I have just overlapped it slightly with my other one towards the other end of the run and left a gap of about a foot and it gives clearance. I guess I do have the luxury of having a longer run with the extension so others who dont might find it a bit of a problem. Also in winter if it snows I am going to have a foot widthof snow in the run, unless I put my thinner one on.
