A range of emotions!

Recommended Posts

My lovely brother and his wife bought tickets for Take That at Wembley this evening for themselves, my sister and her husband, and me and mine for Christmas last year. We've all spent the last 6 months really looking forward to today, all siblings together, with no kids etc etc.

Unknown to my brother and his wife at the time, Katie was pregnant, with the baby due 3 weeks tomorrow. oh well we all thought, we'll park nice and close, they can have a last day out before they have a baby to bring along, a great time weill still be had by all!

Until last night, when her waters broke!!! The last I heard Dan was following a blue lighted ambulance to the larger maternity hospital. She has been sent there by the local one as they can't accept her until 37 weeks (which is tomorrow!)

Fortunately I have a teenage daughter and her friend who were more than happy to fill their shoes, in a guilty, but excited way.

A strange feeling really, can't what for the concert, but the people who bought the tickets can't come!

(Just heard that baby should be here within the hour!) :D

Well, I'm an Auntie again!!!!!

Baby Daisy Rose, born at 1.58pm yesterday afternoon, just as we were leaving for the concert. 6lb 8oz, despite being 3 weeks early.

Spent the best evening ever at the concert - it was just amazing!!! Lots of texts going backwards and forwards, and eventually a photo. Have actually got black bruises on the palms of my hands from clapping so much.

Daughter and friend were flabbergasted - they have never been anywhere like that (although neither had I!) and have certainly had a night to remember.

We were all looking forward to baby coming home this afternoon, but got a text at lunchtime to say that they had been sent back to the larger maternity hospital (having spent the night in the local one) as Daisy has got low blood sugar. She is now on a ward in Bath, on a drip, and we are awaiting further news. Horrible feeling, waiting. :( Something I'm not very good at.

Does anyone have any experience of this and what might happen next? I'm sure we will hear in due course, we have heard that the Doctors seem happy enough with her but they can't get it to stabilise.

Another emotion to add to this weekends - worry. :anxious:

It is very common, especially with babies born a few weeks early because they often have some trouble sucking. My ED was 3 weeks early and I tried to breast feed but she was very sleepy and wouldn't latch on, she was then given a tiny bottle of formula which she promptly brought back, I think it was too rich as a first food. Bit by bit she was fed with tiny bits of formula and expressed breast milk and we got home after 3 days, she was also quite jaundiced and cold. She then became a greedy feeder never did get the hang of breast feeding and she grew very quickly and is now nearly 18 with 9 A* GCSE's so it didn't do her any harm :D

My SIL had the same problem with my nephew who was 3 weeks early but didn't get the support that we got and he ended up back in hospital on a drip. He was born onthe stairs at home taken in to hospital for a quick check then sent home again with no support. He is also now a strapping bright 2 year old, so don't worry.

Glad you enjoyed the concert :D

Please keep us posted.

Firstly, congratulations! Daisy is a lovely name (my best friend named her baby Daisy).

As for the waiting part and what happens next, it's different for everyone. My YD (now 11) was born 9 weeks prem and she was in NICU for 4 weeks before coming home. She was tube fed through her nose as she was too small to feed and had various monitors on her. I found it quite scary to see her at first as she was only 3lb 10.5 oz. I was expressing milk for her and freezing it so the nurses could give it to her with the all important bits and bobs the first milk has. I then tried BFing her but she'd just nod of so I had to go onto bottle fed formula. It was quite hard having an alarm go off every 3 hours through the night for a feed  but she soon put on weight and is catching up with her older brother heigh wise  We found the doctors were very cautious for the first few days, and they don't want to send babies home unless they are strong enough. I'm sure it won't be long before they will both be home :)
