batcatz
Hi, I have a broody silkie. I've got the broody cage ready, but this is a bit tempting! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-POLISH-POLAND-FRIZZLE-HATCHING-EGGS-INCUBATION-/150630055118?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item2312403cce&_trksid=bvizzzzzzOkz I would have to rehome the chicks ( especially cockerels) and I have a spare wooden coop and run (one of those ebay ones). Now I need to talk myself out of it!
Egluntyne
I'd snap the broody out of it and not go to all the palaver if you don't intend to keep any of them, tbh.
Redwing
I agree Polands are also quite hard to sex so you'd be stuck with the growers going in to the autumn period when chicken sales are slow and you may get all males which are effectively worthless
batcatz
Thanks! Good point as they wouldn't be POL until end of Oct/Nov. I've put her in the broody cage for now, but I already enquired about hatching eggs at a local place who I've visited before with a friend. They have a couple of breeds of chicken on my want list. I'd probably end up keeping a chamois poland hen (if there were any)so fingers crossed she stops being broody asap in case I give in! It's just the thought of how cute she'd be that did it. craftyhunnypie
If you can't keep any & can't dispatch or have someone you know that can dispatch, then I wouldn't hatch. Get some Point of lays instead! Emma.x

Get some Point of lays instead!Emma.x Hi, yes I lined up a dispatcher when I first got my chickens in case one of them fell ill or had an accident. I know I couldn't do it myself. I'd only put 6 poland eggs under her and maybe sneak in two appenzeller! Chances are 6 would hatch and 5 would be boys. I'd keep the hen and advertise the cockerels on , preloved etc and if no luck I'd send them to the dispatcher. I've chosen a breed that would have a higher chance of being wanted for breeding. Hetty is in the broody cage as the moment so this is all theory, planning and daydreams. I know what I'd be letting myself in for as I've looked into all this before. Why is it so tempting though?
