julie 847
Hi, I'm worried about my four girls, two of them are four years old, and two are three years old. I am only getting one egg a day at the moment and they don't seem very interested in food either - even their favourite treats like bread and meal worms. They are eating, just not the same. They seem to be spending most of their time dust bathing. They have plenty of water and I use Poultry spice and poultry drink. I powder them and their coop once a month with diatom, and can't see any lice or mites. Is it something I am doing wrong or not doing? They look healthy - bright eyes, fleshy red combs etc. I just don't understand why they arn't as excited for their food and treats, and why only 1 egg per day. Can anyone help please? One last thing, I found one the older girls dead in the run about three weeks ago. She didn't appear to have anything wrong with her and definitley had no lice or mites. Thank you to anyone who can offer me some help. Julie.x
The Dogmother
Have they been wormed recently? Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I spoke to two people this weekend, both had ailing chooks and neither had ever wormed them. Get some Marriages pellets with Flubenvet and dose them quarterly, cut out any treats and just feed their layers feed, pop some Life-Guard in the water and leave it at that. They're a good age, but hybrids really only lay like mad for 2-2.5 years then tail off.
julie 847
Hi, No, I've never wormed them because I thought the diatom wormed them. I'll try the fluvinet for them. Does it take long to work? Also, all of them are hybrids - does this mean they are getting old for laying? Thanks for your advice, much appreciated, Julie.x
The Dogmother
Check the FAQ section for advice and instructions on worming with Flubenvet. Your best bet is to order the pre-mixed pellets directly from Marriages, just give them a ring.
