Ain't Nobody Here
After suffering with pains in both heels for a couple of months now (so bad in the mornings, I'm literally hobbling) I went to see a podiatrist and she diagnosed plantar fasciitis. Totally treatable (thankfully!) and I won't have to give up my running and exercise classes . She's making a pair of insoles (cheaper than an orthotic ) and in the short term I have to do a couple of simple exercises when my feet hurt and make sure I don't go barefoot. Very interesting consultation though, apparently one leg is 8mm longer than the other (the average is 5mm) and the anatomy of my feet is unusual (10% of the population). I now also know why I just can't wear heels comfortably and have permission to keep wearing trainers .
freddie
I've got it too, am about three months in now, and yes, it really does hurt! I wear trainers for work, but nothing seems to make it any better!
UKMARCH
I also have it on and off, I have an abnormal gait which can be inherited and have bunions from this. I always wondered when I was young why my mum was always soaking her feet and complaining that her feet hurt and now I know why! I have orthotics but find it hard to find shoes to fit but in the summer can wear Birkenstocks and use these in the house as slippers as they have the arch support, they can take a bit of wearing in but now they do a new softsole option. I found that mine only cleared up with rest and certain shoes set it off!
Redwing
Mine comes and goes - I've had a few mornings where I actually havent been able to stand up in the past! I find it hard to stand or walk for long periods but it definitely flares up then eases and some weeks are easier than others proper insoles have improved things dramatically too. I've binned the shoes that made the pain worse Crocs do a shoe especially for people with foot pain and Plantar, they are expensive so I havent invested yet but apparently they are excellent. I recommend the slow release ibuprofen capsules for painful days
Ain't Nobody Here
Nice to know I'm not alone . Strangly, they're more sore today than ever before . They only really hurt when I stood up before but now it hurts whenever I walk .

Plum
Ow, poor you . Was it brought on by the running, if I remember rightly don't you get a spur of bone on the heel somewhere?
chickencam
Me too. Mine has improved with wearing my Sketchers trainers constantly, fortunatly I have a blackpair that are presentable enought to wear with work trousers. I think I agrevated the condition by weating healed boots last winter, and as you say some mornings hobbling is the best you can do. I hope that it improves soon. Snowy
It is quite common, I see a few people with it, poor you ANH At least you have got the insoles quickly which should help - some people seem to have to wait ages to get them!
Ain't Nobody Here
It wasn't too bad this morning so I managed a step class and they feel OK-ish now. It's not caused by my running (thankfully!) but by the anatomy of my feet which will hopefully be corrected by the insoles (which will be sent to me next week). Starting running again and doing 5/6 step classes a week has exacerbated the underlying issue. She did say that the Asics Gel trainers I wear are absolutely the best and are probably why I've not had problems before.

kaza46
i get it too. Can you explain the exercises that they have told you to do?
Ain't Nobody Here
I've not to go barefoot (and not wear slippers) and wear trainers with good support (like Asics Gels) as much as possible. I've to roll my instep/heel over a rolling pin or cold drinks bottle if my feet hurt at the end of the day. Also, first thing, before getting out of bed, massage the heel/instep to "warn" my feet that they're about to get up! I'm hoping to get back into running (gently!) after a few days, Alli, so still plan to do the G.N.R. .
Seagazer
I've had this before and it is very painful (I have one knee higher than the other ) I used insoles for a while and its fine now. Hope yours gets better soon.
