Grapes ..life and death

Recommended Posts

I am sure that if I was to choose a food that my girls would kill for it is grapes!

They love their worms etc but when it comes to faves it has got to be the grapes. They dive for them if they are thrown and one of my girls poppy grabs one in her beak and runs at double speed behind the coup ,followed by the other two florrie and clover. There is mayhem . I am sure if it was to come to the crunch they could do an injury to the girl that has managed to grab at least 2 in her beak at once. My OH has told me the grapes has to stop as they have such in serious battle when they get them we could ..have a problem.

What treats do others give their girls that cause the same effect?

It's grapes for my two every time. They go totally mental :!: I agree, sometimes it does look like they could come to blows :!: Betty is the worst - she spreads her wings out so Bessie can't get to them  My OH though doesn't find it funny; he tells me off for buying them grapes from Waitrose :!: especially when he goes to the fridge to get some and they've all gone

Sweetcorn! Raw cobs cut into about 4 pieces...... have to make sure I have one for each chicken now (even the babies) as they go mad for it! Fights definately ensue otherwise!

Meal worms go down too quick to fight over - but they'll leapfrog each other to get there first

Spaghetti is the Benny hill chase scenario

Love 'em

Can I just say Happy Mrs Chicken - what a great name!

I was racking my brains how I knew it and then it hit me... peppa pig!

I never considered cheese. Seeing as it one of my favourites , I don't think they will get a lot :) As for mice Clover had a mouse the other day,the others went frantic trying to grab it from her , she never gave in and went round the back of the coup and that was the last seen of the mouse...Presume eaten as no where to be seen.

Mine are all for tinner sweetcorn and mixed corn, they squeak when i give it to them, and chryssie gobbles like a turkey!

As for grapes and raisins (being part of the grape family) i have read lots of stories on here about the health problems hens have with them. Since reading them i have never given them to my girls xxx

lol it's grapes every time for my two. The other day Hetty missed the grape and grabbed Zaggys (4yr old named them) crown by mistake and wouldn't let go. It caused a great deal of concern after they were separated. We are now trying to ween them off grapes. Tinned sweetcorn is a better unless you're desperate to get them back in the run.

OH is right and great thread
