sparkysmum
............Eleven hens I couldn't believe my eyes The chicks free range with the big hens most of the day now and usually at night Mum takes the family off to their own eglu. Not so tonight She is being a bit more independent and must have gone off to her old eglu with her pals and the chicks must have followed her So tonight I have 1 x faverolle, 1 x araucana , 2 x dumpies, a sablepoot, and mum the pekin. Also in the same eglu are all the pekin's chicks which are now bigger than she is. We haven't bothered to close the door, I think they might overheat. Ain't Nobody Here
It'll be pretty cosy in there then . Pity you can't take a photo!
sparkysmum
If they do this again tomorrow I will. I didn't see them till it was quite dark & I didn't want their wee eyes to be hurt by the flash.
Alis girls
Serious overcrowding suspect some will be sleeping on top of each other - need a photo
fluffy chick
I thought I had a lot when one of my cochins bunked up with 6 bantams! but 11! that must be a record!
Space Chick
I have had 18 in a cube... But 11 in an Eglu I don't know why I buy these posh houses.... Went out at bedtime last night, had an empty eglu in one WIR, chickens perched on a patio chair in the run and on the edge of the rabbit run. Other WIR 5 in a cube, rest on perches in the run
Purplemaniacs
Wow I think it is cosy when my 6 hybrid girls are all in the cube nest Chrissie
pips_pekins
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read your post . 11, I would love to see a photo of them all squeezed in. suspect some will be sleeping on top of each other - need a photo I have 4 bantams in an Eglu and they all have to sleep in the nest box. Now that they are fully grown, one has to sleep on top of the others! Reminds me of the episode of the Young Ones on University Challenge for some reason
Bramble
Well, this makes a change from the old chestnut "how many students can you get in a mini?" ... I like the way you say you didn't close the door ... it would have been interesting to see if you actually COULD have closed the door! scarlettohara
Last few nights in the big WIR I've had 8 in the cube, 2 legbars on top, one ex-bat on a shelf and another on top of small hutch and Mrs Summers in a big hutch on her own - she chooses to go in there, I think she likes to stretch out I have got a new wooden coop coming from ebay - bet they all try to sleep in it
