Woodburner - D Day

Recommended Posts

Thank you for that both. Will get OH onto the costing of it all @£2k for the pipe thingy...I think the whole lot will be double that. Worth it in the end I think...that lovely feeling of a woodburner again!! And the thing I really love about them...if there is a gas/elec strike or cut you are self sufficient...you can cook and keep warm with them.

See if a local sweep will do it - mine does.

Would you believe we have no HETAS sweeps near us.

Anyway, good news today was that they've been this afternoon as they had a cancellation and it passed :dance: so definately no liner needed. However, they did have a bit of a mare doing it. In addition to taking off the gas fire and capping the pipe so they could do the test they had to saw the old gas cowl thingy off the top of the chimney, found there's an old gas liner to be taken out and some central heating pipes are in the way of where the woodburner will be going so now we've a plumber coming tomorrow. Extra unplanned expense :wall:

Gah! What a pain for you.

Yes, it's just typical for us but will be worth it :) MInd you the installers don't know what they've let themselves in for re opening up the chimney if past work is anything to go by. Making holes in walls or taking walls down takes at least twice as long as they all think as we're in the builders house so it was built extra solidly

This is me and DH :wall::wall::wall::wall: Plumbers have been and spent over an hour and a half trying to sort it. They've had floorboards up in two rooms and knocked a hole in the side of the chimney breast as well. They're having to come back Monday to do it as it's going to be a full days job for the two of them.

Oooh, it's nearly D Day

All carpet and underlay went to the tip yesterday. All gripper rods snapped up to burn. Some bits of floorboard need replacing so I got new ones bought and delivered yesterday morning. Also got to go over the floor removing staples left from the underlay and checking for any nails. Plan is that we fill any gaps next week prior to sanding the weekend after. Oh, and we're also redecorating the room. DH said yesterday "I thought we were only having a woodburner installed":lol:
