beach chick
my youngest (12) has a lump on the outside of each foot, about halfway down. quite symmetrical, and they feel quite hard. they are starting to be painful. going to take her to docs, but any idea what these could be? I also think she might be getting flat feet - my feet are totally flat, and I have noticed her ankles are starting to turn in slightly... beach chick
dont think so cinnamon - but I dont know... as far as I knew, bunions affected the big toe joint? and always done properly fitted Clarks shoes for school etc. these are about halfway down the outer side of each foot. googling foot lumps was worse than useless... Chicken Licken
I think you will find they are joints! There are slide joints in the tarsals and they can get inflamed - I have Arthritis in my feet and it is often these joints that flare up. It could just be she needs bigger/ wider shoes though. beach chick
ah, that's interesting. we just got new clarks school shoes; she is very difficult to fit as has very narrow heels (tall skinny child). I will get her checked out.
Lavenders_Blue
I have exactly the same problem BC, my feet have always been much narrower at the heels than the toes and my mum always had real difficulty getting me well-fitting shoes as a child. Are the lumps at the bottom of the little toe joint? If so, they will be bunions (known as tailor's bunions) I have these on both feet as well as bunions on both my big toe joints. Most of the time they give me no trouble but every now and again they flare up and boy are they painful! Mine are caused by a combination of high instep and too much high heel wearing in my early 20s I would recommend taking your daughter to see a podiatrist, referral is through the GP. They can advise on the lumps/bunions, causes, and best way to alleviate the pain. I now wear custom made orthotic insoles in my shoes and they make a huge difference. beach chick
been to the GP today - she said "well I dont know much about feet!" but we have to go and get both feet x-rayed to rule out unusual bony growth, and will get a referral to a podiatrist in due course. I think the x-rays will not be worth much as the lumps are in the same place on both feet (not bunion position, about half way down the outer side of the foot) so hoping the podiatrist might be more use.
