eggandsquares
Hi - my chicken is very underweight, her breast bone is prominent. She is not able to stand, is very weak and not eating. We've been feeding her pellets mixed with water through a syringe. She went to the vet (similar issues) 9 weeks ago and was given antibiotics. She is refusing food and docile. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated...we've taken her out of the coop and is in a warm room.
Egluntyne
She needs to go back to the vet, or be humanely culled. It sounds as if she is past being helped by home remedies. Sorry.
sparkysmum
I am sorry to hear this, she sounds very poorly & would agree that she needs to see a vet asap. Alli xx
SeramaSilly
Is she beginning her moult Eggs and Squares? My 4 year old barnebar has the same symptoms every year with her moult. She goes off her food, has diarrhoea, starts doing the goose step and then will fall over. The first year this happened we took her to the vet who was at a total loss. We ended up keeping her inside the house in a dogcage and feeding her with chick-crumb and any other little delicacies she wanted for two months. Now I can recognise the signs and always have to bring her inside for a while and build her up. She is starting to moult now and has gone off her corn (always a sign) so I expect I will have to bring her in again soon. I think she is just a delicate flower and the moult really takes it out of her - if I left her outside she would certainly die. Someone on here suggested feeding hens growers pellets in the colder weather but could you do that when you still have some hens laying?
