Formal Dress Help.

Recommended Posts

It is prize giving at YS's school tonight and he has been nominated for a prize :D

On a quick re read of our invite i have noticed it says in small print dress formal / uniform for all prize winners. Help, does this mean hubby will need to wear a suit or do you think shirt and tie will be ok. I was planning on black trousers and boots and a smart top, will this be ok do you think? This is the first time we've been to anything apart from parents evening and a residential trip evening at the school so have nothing to judge on.

Hope I am reading this right, but if its your son who is nominated for a prize, then I think the formal wear is just for him.

Smart casual should be fine for the audience & relatives of prize winners.

Some parents will just wear everyday clothes,so I shouldn't worry too much.

Congrats on his achievement,by the way

That's exactly how it was at Rosie's prize giving.

Have just asked Adam if he knows as he's just got home. He said he doesn't have to wear his jumper but shirt has to be ironed, shoes clean and tie straight.

All he knows about the parents is that we get a glass of bucks fizz  He's also got tickets for us with seat numbers on. Have found some pictures from last year on schools website but typically they are all of students getting prizes and the guest speaker ( this year is Ben Saunders, the north pole chappy).

love the description of evening dress

We had prize giving this afternoon and I thought we were doing well with me getting into a dress and hubbie into a teeshirt with a collar  He does possess a suit, shirt and tie but strictly wedding and funeral attire - shame he looks good in a suit

Thanks everyone :D

Hubby went in a suit in the end and i worse black trousers with a smart black and white top. Yes, we did see a full range of outfits. Some were :o:lol:

It was a lovely evening :D I am amazed at some of the pupils achievements and talents, ranging from fantastic exam results to amazing sportsmen and woman, talented musicians and dancers.

Adam's award was the year 7 endeavour award. He was awarded this for his conscientious effort resulting in excellent progress :D:D He was presented with a lovely Parker pen in a case and a certificate by the rather lovely guest speaker, the polar explorer and professional endurance athlete Ben Saunders.

Congrats to your son :D and of course to you for bringing him up so well.

We have been to ED's school prize giving for the past 2 years in Gloucester cathederal, it is a fantastic venue, and you do see see a strange array of clothing  We usually wear me: smart trousers and top and a smart coat, it can be chilly in there and OH: a suit. She got her awards for excellent GCSE results last year and excellent AS results this year, it is lovely to feel proud, but the head teacher does go on a bit
