Flaming June and sodden July

What I want to know is this.....if the Chinese have the technology in place to send missiles to disperse rainclouds at the Beijing Olympics, than why can't we do the same?

I refuse to believe it would be any more expensive than coping with the aftermath of the national disaster we are enduring at the moment.

Hello All - sorry but I haven't been on the forum for ages because Hubby and I have been busy setting up his new business - just wanted to send well wishes to any omleteers affected by the rising waters - hope that no-one has suffered too much devastation

I was speaking to a colleague yesterday who lives in Cheltenham and is getting married on Saturday and had a call to say her reception venue had had to cancel because of the flooding there - she was sooo calm - I think she dispatched hubby-to-be to M&S and is going to have everyone back to her house afterwards - oh and I think she may invest in some pink wellies!!

Fortunately we have not been affected by flooding near me although we have of course had the rain that has caused it - rather frustratingly hubby's new business is somewhat weather dependant and I think our estimated first yeasr profits may not come to fruition with this weather!

Hope all are well

Water levels have dropped here - how are those of you with no water? Life becomes so difficult with no water, hope you are all managing.

Well, I think the word is "challenging" - but not impossible. The nearest bowser to us is supposed to be a mile away. According to information given out yesterday. But there is still no sign of it. We didn't fancy joining the huge queues for bottled water, but in the end went to see what was available. They were handing out 4 half litre bottles per person at the Council offices - not quite what you see on the tv. And not worth driving three miles for. But fortunately we have the means to go and buy it for ourselves.

You don't appreciate how much you rely on running water until it has gone. Not being able to wash hands is the worst. But I have found baby wipes very effective. And I can brush my teeth with half a glass of water (mainly for rinsing). We have bought paper plates and cups, as you can't wash dishes or pots and pans. I read the thread on whether you could wash the Eglu with water only - we have everything but water! But the hens seem happy enough. Our water butt is used for essential flushing of the toilet (and is the only reason why I hope the rain doesn't stop too soon!)

But on the other hand our house hasn't been flooded, so we are lucky really.

Oh Milly, hope you get your water back on soon. Like a lot of things we don't realise how precious it is until its gone do we?

For handwashing you can get a handwash thing that doesn't need water - I keep some in the car, its very useful - and you can get an anti-bacterial one as well.

thanks - I have got one of the handwashes you mention, but I find I still feel a bit sticky afterwards. But at least I know I am clean even if it doesn't feel like it. And I now wear gloves when doing chicken things, so I don't have to wash.

And we aren't cut off - we went for a day out in Bath yesterday (we are supposed to be on holiday this week, although it doesn't feel like it). It was so nice to go somewhere normal instead of watching flood news on TV.

But two weeks without water seems like a very long time. I just hope that is the worst case scenario!

Milly

I feel for you Milly, I really do :?

It has all gone off here overnight. Lots of local places are no-go areas....here is the environmant agency map for this morning.

I live in Binfield Heath,so we are a bit surrounded at the momentalthough luckily there is no danger of us getting wet.

I have to go into Henly this morning as Cleo has a Doctors appt, so I will try to see just how bad things are while I am there.

Torrential rain here as well - I had to take Lauren to physio at stratford Hospital this afternoon, I had to drive through 4 flash floods in my little Mini :?

To make matters worse, they said Lauren didn't have an appointment when I had paid for parking  My daughter only phoned on Monday morning to confirm :?

I hope you made it into Henley Sarah?
