AJuff
That's what my OH thinks about my crafting! He hates the quilts, pictures, blankets and stuff I make as it creates mess and what I make we don't need. He's very irritated by the second Christmas quilt I'm making for DD2. I've asked him to show some respect for my crafty work!

craftyhunnypie
Cheaper & better than a baby! If I wasn't allowed to craft or it wasn't appreciated - I'd be single! No one stops me doing what I want & if anyone challenges why I do something crafty - then they are no friend of mine! Emma.x
Plum
Bless, he's not getting all the attention. Stick a paper cutout of yourself in front of the tele. Tell him you're taking up amateur dramatics and will be out 4 days a week. and when are you going to show us your work?????????!????
Bramble
He needs to be spoken to in the strongest terms ... My Mum isn't always that supportive of my (usually less than successful) craft "projects" ... waste of time, money etc, but it's still fun (and not necessarily very expensive fun) ... I feel a rebellious visit to Hobbycraft coming on ...
Goosey Lucy
My OH doesn't always 'get' my crafty ambitions either, he has never and will never see the point of bunting, but is supportive of my endeavours. He is totally mystified by crochet, can't understand how it works and is always amazed that one strand of wool can become a hat, blanket or any other manner of things. He thinks it's girl magic There again I think his ability to coax life out of seemingly deceased electronic items borders on the mystical. rachel19
Mmmm the menfolk don't always understand do they - although mine is very respectful of my paintings and drawings, he does tut at the pencil shavings and drops of turps on the sofa.......I can't understand why They might not understand the point of crafting and arty things but I think they sort of have their own too but just don't see it that way - I'd have no idea how to fix electronic gadgets or rebuild a car engine but OH does and i think thats borderline man-crafting really. Guest
My ex had sooooo many "hobbbies" it bordered on the ridiculous! Most were not cheap either - sailing was the costliest, but he some how thought that the 14,000 plus cd collection (yes 14,000 - you read right!!!) and 100's of vinyl albums didn't count! That's without mentioning the £30,000 he conned me out of to pay off his credit cards - at the end he was buyiing upwards of 14 cd's and or dvd's per week! Plus all the hi-fi to listen to them all on! (he sold that for a living and it was all top flight stuff). My argument that a bit of crafting that probably cost me about £10 max in supplies was really rather minimal! He would moan and moan so much if I left it down even for a few minutes whilst making tea or whatever! It was such a relief when he left - I have got back into my sewing now and am really enjoying it - I can even leave it out overnight to "finish it off tomorrow" without getting moaned at! The best bit was making him take all his rubbish with him when he left! He also had a huge book collection ! My house was instantly so much tidier and far less cluttered when he left! I don't make things because I "need" them - I make them because I enjoy making them - often as gifts for other people! Men just don't get that! (apologies to the lovely Christian - we know you love your sewing).

AJuff
This is my mistletoe pattern if you can make sense of it. LEAVES: using a 3mm or 3.5mm hook and DK yarn (Ch15. Dbldbltr (yrn 3 times) into 6th ch from hook, dbldbltr into next ch st, dbltr (yrn twice) into next 2 ch sts, tr into next 2 ch sts, last 3 sts: htr, dc, dc) Repeat. Ch9, dc into 3rd ch from hook, dc into each ch to end, slst into beginning ch to close, break yarn. BERRIES (make 2): using 3mm or 3.25mm knitting needles, cast on 3 sts, stst 2 rows, break yarn and thread through sts – pull tightly and fasten off. They only take a few minutes to make the leaves. The pattern starts at a leaf. I joined two sets of leaves onto one stem, tied them up and used hairspray to fix them in position as they tend to curl. Happy crotcheting. chickencam
You have made some very beautiful and I would say practical items. Do not be put off you have the right to express yourself. My OH used to be very like this when we first moved in togther, I think it was largely jealousy, because I would be engrossed in something and he would have nothing to do and "Ooops, word censored!"ody to entertain him. He has improved vastly over the years and even made a cross stich sampler for ED 18 when she was born, which was completed within a few weeks whereas the one that I started for my DS now 15 is still imcomplete and I haven't even started one for YD 13, they might have to be wedding presents You need to encourage any hobbies that he shows and interest in,people don't make things for utility on the whole they make them as a form of self expression, we all need an outlet. I love to knit and have to admit that there are times when my OH is like a naughty pet and he will start tossing my yarn around trying to get some attention, he gets ignored when he does this, the best way to deal with attention seeking behavior Keep crafting
AJuff
My OH has plenty to keep him busy . . he sails every week, is an avid cylist, reads lots and has recently taken up running. It's the mess that crafting makes that gets him. He hates finding loose bits of cotton hanging off his clothes which he's picked up on sofas etc. He is a very practical man and sees quilt making as an unnecessary craft that clogs up already overfilled cupboards. He often asks how many quilts and blankets do you need? I daren't tell him I can't wait to make Easter quilts next season!!! Today I have had an unexpected day off as DS has been very sick since 2am and OH is away on an eight day trip (typical). So I have had the chance to finish DD2s Christmas Candy Quilt 2011. What do you think?
