2009 Omlet cube and run for sale

Bit of a dumb question I know but where do you put your heat pads in the cube for your chooks. I have put mine in the pull out poo trays but is this any good? Should I put it on top of the roosting bars?

Don't have one but I think I'd put it under the poo tray too, probably wrap it in newspaper or a bag though!

It does stay hot for quite a long time so i wouldnt want my girls standing on it and burning their little tootsies

I usually wrap it in a carrier bag and nestle into the bedding under the roosting bars, that way the bag keeps it clean and the chooks get the heat without burning their feet.

Under the drinker to stop it from freezing - they don't need it in the housing if you are keeping them in Omlet housing as it's well insulated.

 

A chook's body temperature is 105deg, so they don't feel the cold the way we do.

You can make them ill if you don't let them aclimatise (says the woman who had her chooks in the conservatory over xmas last year ) If they are too warm they'll drop feathers and lowers immunity.

 

Having said that I use them when it gets to -5.

I only use mine to keep the water from freezing too. My chooks are lovely and warm in there feather duvets!

ok I know I am a Divvy and too soft on my girls!!! I am just a bit overprotective as my girlies have been very poorly and I worry all the time Also I only have four little bantams in a Cube which is why I have been using the snugglesafe. I have resisted the extreme weather jacket though, so all is not lost
