Shelley
Love to buy my daughter a rabbit for Xmas and keep it in our walk-in run with the three chooks. But would they fight? Any reason why it wouldn't work?
House MD 221B
I'm sure someone will be along in a moment with more solid evidence and advice, but I've seen plenty of video footage of chickens with both guinea pigs and rabbits and in fact the chickens broke up a fight between two rabbits. But this was all free-range, as for living in a run / house together I couldn't possibly say, but I would have thought separate run / house and free-range should be fine. But it probably depends on the breed of chooks, and the breed / gender of the rabbits. Placid with placid females would probably be ok. But an aggressive or randy male rabbit, with a more pecky breed of chicken probably wouldn't mix. Possibly even need an introduction period like introducing new hens so they got used to each other but couldn't GET at each other, so they learn they aren't going to steal each other's food. Edit:\ I don't know much about rabbits. Edit 2:\ Video link:
Griffin
The top third of my garden is fenced off and in there with my chickens are two rabbits, Jessica & Roger, both neutered. The chickens totally ignore them. They eat the same food too, I mix my own grains, and I leave out some hay after the chickens have gone to bed. The rabbits are odd in that they refuse to sleep in their house, they've hollowed out a patch of earth under one of the coops and they sleep there. They're both extremely healthy and look great now with their thick winter coats
Redwing
Looking at the floors of my WIRs I'm not sure that its a healthy place for a rabbit to be
Space Chick
I agree with Redwing... A large open space maybe it would work, but a WIR I don't think would be good for a rabbit. If your daughter really wants one, how about getting an indoor rabbit... There are some fab indoor cages around
Lewis
Technically yes, but I wouldn't advise it outside. I worked at a childrens farm and we had Giant rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, quail and golden pheasant all in a large (indoor) aviary. There were lots of hidey holes for the guinea pigs and quail, and it was cleverly set up so you could section someone off into one part, or let them all run around together. It worked well because it was a big area along 1 side of a barn but there were always staff and visitors around to keep an eye on them. LolaLayla
If I let my two mini lops free range with my two Hybrid girls they get pecked and chased if they get within approx 3 feet of them Maybe depends on personalities.
The Dogmother
I wouldn't advise (I supervise mine when they are out together) chickens are far too interested in bunnies' shiny eyes for my liking and the rabbits have a heck of a kick on them , so I'd not leave them together unsupervised.
