Qype,Groupcon & the like.

Recommended Posts

I have been getting email from Qype & the other similar discount sites for a while now,but have never taken the plunge & placed an order until last month when I ordered a canvas print, which I was told would be with me in 2 weeks.

A month on & nothing......................

I have emailed both Qype & the print company, but got no where.

Today the print company have emailed to say it is 'processing' (2 weeks AFTER it should have been delivered), so I phoned them, was on hold for 15 minutes, then got an answer message saying that no one was available & to leave a message, but the mailbox was full!

This was supposed to be a gift for someone for this week, & obviously it is now not going to be with me on time.

Qype have said they will not refund me as the order is now processing....aaarrrggghhh!!!!!!

Has anyone else had similar problems with these 'deal' companies???'

I haven't used them myself, but there has been a fair bit of bad publicity about these deals where companies have "sold" more offers than they can cope with, resulting in a lot of very disappointed customers (in fact, I think there was something on the One Show last night, but I only caught the last few seconds of it).

Hope your picture comes soon

Well, its too late now, even if it does turn up :x

I have always looked upon these companies with a fair amount of scepticism, but thought I would give it a shot.

I know a woman very close to where I live had a cupcake deal on,& her profits for the entire year have been wiped out,but I had never had feedback from the customers point of view before.....

I've used Groupon twice, once for a nights dinner, bed & breakfast at the Cumberland Hotel in Bournemouth which was good value & we also got Bucks Fizz on arrival, a discount voucher for spa treatments and had a lovely time.

The second was for a BBQ meat pack from a good Kent butchers , they had been inundated with orders so I couldn't actually get the pack when I wanted it, but I may have been partly to blame as I did try to order it on the Monday hoping to collect on the Friday, there was nothing to say that I needed to give them a certain amount of notice so that was my only gripe, they did offer me a refund but I chose to get it at a later date, as it was too good value to miss and I was glad that I did as we had about 10 meals out of it :D

Depspite my 6 emails saying that as it is now nearly 3 weeks late I no longer want it,I have just got an email saying it has been dispatched :twisted::twisted:

I have opened a case with pay pal, with whom I made the £6 delivery charge payment & will carry on hounding Qype for the £8 actual fee too

Ive bought things on Groupon and had no problems. I was listening to a discussion about these on the radio and it does seem that some retailers underestimate the power of groupon and the like. One lady thought she would get some "nice publicity and sell a few products" wherein she was inundated with orders.

Lilybettybabs, you'll have to contact me if you come unstuck with your Groupon......we need to empty our freezers a bit!

I've used Groupon a lot and have had no problems at all, I've just used it for Shamballa bracelets this morning - 2 for £20 instead of £70 each. My daughter and grand-daughter were looking at them in a jeweller's in town last week and they both have birthdays in January. I phoned my daughter at 7.45am to check and whilst I was talking to her the numbers sold went from 822 to 1045 so I hope they're able to fulfil the order when the offer opens on Saturday night :?

What a shame you've had such a problem with Qype Sarah, I haven't used Qype myself so can't help with whether it was a one off. I thought sellers could set a limit on the offer? - perhaps they forgot.

Excellent news Sarah.

I fear I'm about to have the same problem with Groupon so I take back what I said earlier about having had no problems......I'd only used it on local things before like a meal for two at a local restaurant, fish pedicure at local salon, the tickets for Stratford Armouries......but I bought a voucher for bracelets from a national, online, store which went live on Saturday at 8pm. I checked in the morning and over 14,000 had been sold so I knew what would happen next.....the site was unable to cope with the sheer volume! I had my bracelets order set up ready at 7.55 and at 8.00 on the dot I entered my voucher code......I spent the next 3 hours pasting my code in every 10 seconds. I started again this morning at 6.30 and as I have better things to do with my life I'm giving up for a while. There was a note asking for customers to 'bare' (sic) with them (I shall refrain!) as their site is unable to cope. One of the bracelets I wanted was out of stock, as was my second choice. Soon there will be none that I would choose for my daughter and then I won't want to order and will be requesting a refund. I'll see if I can contact the Company tomorrow but I don't hold out much hope. I don't need these 2 bracelets until 12th and 14th of January but the voucher expires on the 8th so we shall see.

I won't use Groupon for anything global again - I shall stick to local.

Just in case some of you are following this and wondering whether to use Groupon I thought I'd update.

I was eventually able to use my voucher code and stock had obviously been added as I was able to order my two 'first choices' - whether they will be delivered or not.....I don't know..........I'll be back! :D

While I was checking my Groupon account I found a voucher which I'd paid for in the summer and forgotten to print out and had completely forgotten about  . That was also for accessories and was also probably bought with the two January birthdays in mind. It cost £8 for a £20 voucher and the voucher had 2 expiry dates on it (that seems to happen a lot with Groupon but they accept the later one) so I had until 16th December.......

This one was with http://www.funkyaccessories.comand I entered the site with trepidation.......... I needn't have worried, I chose 2 items which took me over £20 and should qualify for free postage, entered my voucher code...... it was accepted! this took my balance to £6 and I thought it might then add postage but it didn't!.

Just waiting for deliveries now but am still impressed with my vouchers - I think as long as you are prepared for things to take a while on the very popular things and you have time on your side then Groupon is a great way to save money.
