experience with faverolles?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

We sadly lost one of our three chooks last week and are bracing ourselves to get another (I know, introducing one chicken to two isn;t ideal, but when you only have room for three....sigh).

ANyway: our local supplier (thankfully) has chooks in stock including favarolles!! Now much as I love their feathery feet, would it be asking for trouble to introduce such a strange looking bird to our slight feisty leghorn cross and our large but placid bluebelle? Would it be safer to go for a less feathery hybrid?

Do be honest: I wouldn;t want to cause any additional stress to the introduction process. At least this time (it'll be our second introduction) we have a temporary annexe!

I agree I am afraid, I've had a Faverolle (who I rehomed to a more placid flock) and have also met quite a few on my show travels and they are pretty soft and shy away from confrontation - lovely beautiful and placid birds but born victims!

If you have to introduce a lone bird I'd personally make it a light and nimble one so it can duck away from trouble or a bolder heavy one that will stand its ground like a Sussex or RIR and try to get one that is quite mature, at least 25 weeks if you can
